View Full Version : The Top 7… games you either love or hate

Like petty school children bickering in a playground fight, gamers are obsessed with choosing sides. Never content to rate a game as simply “above average” or “slightly disappointing,” we allow internet hearsay, magazine previews, fanboy feuds and console preferences to push our views to ridiculous extremes.

I thoroughly enjoyed Assassin's Creed and Dead Rising, but I can see where haters would be coming from. For me though, the save system and 72 hour setup of Dead Rising just wasn't an issue. As for the bosses, don't take them on at an early level, you need to play the game and die a few times. Once you're up to level 50 it's a cakewalk.
Assassin's Creed was frustrating at times but still very fun. With a few tweaks the next one should be fantastic.
I'd add Lost Planet to the list. A lot of people loved it, but bloody hell I hated it. It's actually one of the only games I never finished. I hated Halo too, but I at least finished it.

I did the same with Lost Planet.....fighting those whole Boss Battles over and over and over again.......still irritates me.

The biggest missed opportunity for a videogame ever. “Zombies in a mall” should be automatic fun, but Dead Rising practically bends over backwards to ruin that experience. The weapons are temporary. The save system is unforgiving. The boss battles are unfair and the human survivors (ahem, Otis) are exasperating. Shooting a gun is almost impossible; reading text on a standard def television is impossible. Worst of all? The game is needlessly structured in 72 hour cycles, forcing you start over just as you’re getting used to the broken crap above.
I agree with all of those statements, which just goes to show how good Dead Rising is because despite all the problems above, it is still a very worthy and enjoyable game. Very much looking forward to the sequel and see some of the improvements that were made. You can already see some play style adjustments, such as Otis, in the Wii version of Dead Rising. Well, either conscious gameplay adjustments or forced due to the Wii limitations, not too sure.
[EDIT] Dead Rising save function never bothered me at all.

Halo is a good game, but it is not th world beater that many fanboys claim it to be.

How come there aren't any Mario games up there? I can think of a few overrated ones.

Why is this in the PC games section? All of these games are console. Maybe a couple ported. Pokemon and Space Giraffe?
Give me a break Mara.:doa:

For someone who goes out of her way everyday to post gaming news, I think she is allowed to post where ever the hell she wants.

While we're on the subject, what PC games do you love to hate? What gems do you feel are completely overrated? World of Warcraft? The Sims? Deus Ex?

Going to have to strongly disagree with you there Contagious, but that is the point of the thread. :):
Can't really think of any overrated games. I didn't really care for GTA either, but I can recognize it is a good game, just not my style.
