View Full Version : Crysis-Warhead Crisis

Well, hell. I got Crysis-Warhead, today, but I've run into an installation problem. It does it's thing and installs all the files, and I get a "setup complete" screen, but nothing happens when I click "finish." Task Manager shows both Crysis-Warhead and the install wizard as "running," but I let it run for an hour, and nothing happens. I get a "program not responding" message when I end task out of it.

I uninstalled and reinstalled, and the same thing happened. Any ideas? It's late, and I'm tired, so I'm not going to pursue it any further, tonight, but I'm kind of bummed to be having problems. I'll check first thing in the morning to see if anybody knows anything. Thanks, Edward.

Edward, I don't know the solution to the problem....just was wondering if you had your anti-virus disabled at the time of installation? That has given me problems on certain programs.

I also wonder if it is a program problem or operating system problem....I do know some vista owners had problems, but I am not sure of the solution.

I hope you get it figured out so you can get back to blasting things.

I googled this and came up with people getting the game to hang at a certain point when installing, but never really found a solution......looks like one person got it to work by copying the files on the dvd to his desktop and installing from there....but that sounds like a dvd drive problem,to me.

Good luck.

Did you try to run the game after the installation finished but timed out? It's likely the game would have worked just fine even with the installer hang so long as all the files were installed.

One thing to try would be to copy the entire contents of the DVD to your HDD and install from there.

You might also want to look into the DRM situation - I don't remember if Warhead has a "revoke" option, but I'm pretty sure it has an install limit. Uninstalling and reinstalling could move you closer to the limit.

Yeah it's another one of the more extreme SecuROM lock-down titles. However, if he never registered the game he shouldn't need to revoke the license yet.

Yes, I disabled my antivirus and even turned off the firewall, but the same thing happens every time. When the install wizard freezes, the "play" choice on the opening screen is still greyed out. If I recycle the drive tray, it shows "play," but nothing happens when I click on it. It says the installation is complete, and when I click the "finish" button, it shows the busy icon for a split second and then freezes. Usually, you get the choices of a desktop icon and to view the Readme, and then you get the main loading screen, but it's like something is stopping the final "go ahead and play" permission.

If I click on the setup.exe, the only option is to uninstall, so it thinks it's installed. The only other executable I saw was a Direct-X update thing, and I even tried that. It did it's thing and said I was all set, but it didn't make any damned difference, either. I suspect from what I've read that the Secur-Rom crap might be to blame, although all the activation stuff seemed to go smoothly.

I Googled "Crysis-Warhead Finalizing Installation" and there are others who have had the exact same problem, but nobody has posted a solution.

I'm bummed that I don't have a game to play over the weekend, but I'm mostly pissed that I'm having the problem in the first place. I've got about the most basic, middle of the road, updated and clean, computer, running a current, patched, operating system, and their stupid game won't even INSTALL! The original Crysis was the first game I played on this exact same computer, and now their sequel won't work on the same machine? Something's bad wrong, and I'm not in the mood to deal with it.
After the wonderful experience of Far Cry 2, the Rainbow-Six Vegas games, MoH-Airborne, Blacksite-Area 51, Kane & Lynch, Frontlines, and Call of Juarez games with virtually no issues or problems, this kind of crap really leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I've used up 3 of the supposed 5 installations allowed, and, as I said, I don't feel like spending hours and hours researching and trying weird stuff just to get the bastard to work. I spent $30 on it, but, if you folks don't have a silver bullet for me, I think I'm inclined to take my blowtorch to it and reduce it into the little, melted, plastic, turd, that it really is underneath the hype.

Gears Of War wouldn't install, either, so this is the second time this has happened, and both of them have been "Games for Windows," too.

All right, I'll shut up and go watch football on TV. I won't light the torch just yet, but, I'm going to keep my matches handy if you guys can't clue me in on this irritating state of affairs. Edward.

If you're playing a lot of games, a simple defrag could fix the problem. It's fixed install problems for me. Worth a shot since you're watching football.

Im no expert but could SLI be screwing with the install.

Could be a DRM problem. I found a forum discussing this.

"ok this game is weird ... solved it finally!!!!!

for anyone having this problem ... i have two DVD drives, had to disable the one such that i have only one optical drive registered under windows ... game installed then ... suppose if someone had a virtual drive this would also have to be disabled...:

Some DRM detects image-mount tools (such as Alcohol 120%) and refuses to run the game. Sounds like it can also falsely detect a physical drive as one.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I don't put up with this DRM ********.

Yeah, I read that, but I've only got one real drive and no virtual drives, at all. I've also got absolutely no software or programs that people use to cheat. I pay for my games, and I wouldn't have the foggiest idea about how to crack a cd or cheat in any way, so, if it is the DRM crap that is causing problems, then they are shooting themselves in the foot with me.

I thought about disabling my SLI, Lou, but I didn't see that mentioned, anywhere, as it usually is when it is a problem. Also, if it were that simple, it seems I would get a simple error message so some sort telling me to turn it off, or at least a note in the Readme.

My computer is set to defrag every Monday, so I doubt that is a problem. The whole installation, all 15 gigs worth, goes smoothly and relatively fast, only taking about fifteen minutes, so the problem is definitely something wrong with the very final steps. In my mind, at least, there is just no excuse for this game not to install properly. Edward.

Just a shot in the dark Ed, but maybe Vista's UAC (User Account Control) is blocking the installation from finishing.

Do you get a window asking for your permission to install the game or do you have UAC disabled?

If the UAC is enabled try disabling it just to see if you can install the game that way.

Click on Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> User Accounts -> Turn User Account Control On or Off.
Uncheck the box next to “Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer”
Click on “OK”.

I have had zero problems with DRM with any games. I just thought it was worth mentioning. I suppose you could call tech support. Other people have had this problem so I'm guessing it's a combination of certain hardware that's causing it. Do you have a Lite-on or Sony optical drive?

OldsterHolster said the same thing happened with Gears of War. Maybe it is Windows.

Sounds like it must be the dvd drive or vista to me.

Lou was right. I disabled SLI and the forth installation attempt breezed right through the finalizing installation screen. I set my controls and started a new game, and it seems OK. I went through the opening cutscenes and started running away from the crash scene with explosions, etc., and it looks pretty good, so I quicksaved and quit. I'm going to go have a few beers to cure my stressed-out hangover, and then I'm back in business, after all.

Thanks for your help, guys. I can't believe something as simple as SLI settings don't elicit a dialogue box or error message instead of freezing up the whole damned installation procedure, but I'm happy that it was that easy. Thanks, again, Lou, for mentioning that possibility.

Woo Hoo! Beer, a new game, and football! It's going to be a good weekend, after all. Enjoy yours, too. Edward.

Interestingly enough the only game I've ever had this issue with was also an EA published title. Gosh, could it be that the draconian DRM EA is deploying so readily really is anti-consumer?

The last Medal of Honor game simply would not install under Vista (it took end users to figure out how to get it installed as EA offered no help at all).
