View Full Version : How do you approach your gaming?

To clarify: I'm mostly curious to see whether or not most people play games serially or in parallel? Is your average gaming week filled with an eclectic sampling of various titles across an array of platforms, or do you more-or-less tend to settle on one game at a time and really invest most of your gaming time into it until you either beat it or lose interest?

Myself, I tend to play games one at a time. I'd like to attribute this to not owning any other modern platform aside from my PC, but even when I did have consoles I still tended to focus my energies into one particular title at a time.

I was also curious to see whether or not there's any correlation to your style and your "clearance rate"--do you tend to finish the games you play? Unfortunately I don't see a way to add a second poll so... damn. But for the record I generally play games one at a time and finish the majority of the games I play (not counting games that I've quit or given up on within an hour or so of starting).

Note: I realize that many games and genres inherently cannot be beaten. So, for the intents of this poll, imagine you're in a scenario where all you have to play are completable single-player games unless an option specifically states otherwise.

One at a time for me, especially the first time through.

Hey, you stole my poll of the day!!! Thank you.

I usually have my hand in multiple games at one time, which is far from ideal. I get sidetracked easily I guess.

Yeah Rob,
I stick to playing games one at a time.
My mind is way to distracted to focus on all those stories.

I usually just play whatever I feel like playing...especially on the console. I haven't purchased a game in ages...when I did I guess I would usually focus on a single game at a time, PC wise at least. I always had multiplayer games goin on the side though so I voted for that option. Back in the day Starcraft and Diablo were always distracting me from whatever single player game I might have going at the time :)

I voted none of the above since I play WoW 99.9% of the time and you can't "play through" that game.

Ahem:

CoD4
Left4Dead
TF2
Guild Wars
Mass Effect
Sacred 2
WoW

But I only play about 4 of those for an hour in a given day.

I generally play one at a time not because I can't keep more than one story line straight but to ensure I get the full experiance. You see boys playing a videogame should be treated with the same care and attention that you put into making love to a woman. For instance never skip through tutorial levels because they are the digital equivalent of foreplay. Save and save often as safety is important. Make sure to learn all the combinations so you always have a finishing move prepared. Never ever use cheats. Most importantly If you rent make sure to treat it with respect so that the next person who plays the game isn't stuck with damaged goods.

Being the idiot that I am, I jump on almost every hyped game and play until the next hyped game comes out. I almost always have 5 or 6 going at once. Obviously I rarely finish a game. I did finish Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Halo 3, and the main quest in Fallout 3 this year.

I used to play through them one at a time with CS:S really dominating most of my game time. However I've found that over time my patience has drifted and if I find a game isn't holding my interest I'll soon abandon it and move onto the next thing.

Having two kids and a full time job (after uni) has also completely changed my take on things. I used to be an avid CS:S player often putting in insane hours (think 30-40 hours a week on holidays). I was pretty into clans and adminned on a few servers (which I still do when I have time - which is never, still get free net from ISP though lol). I think at the top of my game I was ranked in the top 100 for Aus players consistently for a few months. So yeah, I was a complete nerd and I still get accused of hacking regularly in pub servers.

Now things have calmed down and I play games around my real life which is probably a much healthier relationship. This affects things a lot as I can't exactly play Left 4 Dead around a 4 year old. Right now I'm playing X3: Terran Conflict when the kids are around as it's a relaxed game I can interrupt at any time and there is little to no combat unless I trigger it myself.

I think that's the key thing that's shifted me back to single player games. If the kids are around I have to be able to just hit a button and pause it. If I'm in multiplayer I can't really do it without stuffing up a whole team or missing out on the action. However because I'm so pressed for time I have little patience for games that don't grab me straight away.

Right now I play a stack of single player games usually dominated by one particular single player game and one multiplayer. Yeah, it's complicated.

I usually play one game at a time.

When I am finished , I will start a new one.

I am really getting into some of the hybrid shooters.....but at times I am in the mood for just some old skool run & gun fun.

I also have to finish every game that I start....there are very few exceptions...the last game that I have not finished was Lost Planet......i also am still working on FarCry 2......but it will last a long time as I can only handle it in small incriments, as I get frustrated as to how good the game could have been.
