Time sure flies, doesn't it? November, already, and Baseball, hurricanes, and Daylight Savings Time, have stepped aside to make way for football, snowbird migration, and, of course, a huge election here in the USA.
I really want to thank those that contributed to last month's thread. There were seven of us who posted pictures, some more than once, and I enjoyed every one. I'm an airplane nut and an ex-pilot, so Stuart's flight sim shots were very interesting to me, personally, and I was also impressed with Joe Cool's racetrack action. Even Cloudwa4lker's Half-Life shot brought back memories. It's kind of cool to see a picture and think, "Hey, I've been there, too!"
I had to laugh when I saw Lou Cifer's Gears of War shots. I paid retail for that s.o.b., and it would never install on my computer, so I was pissed. I traded it to Lou for Blacksite-Area 51, which I enjoyed, and now I get to see what my game looks like, after all. Heh, heh. Thanks, Lou. Thanks, also, to Donjo and Gridiron, who initially inspired me to start this monthly topic and hopefully get others to join in. I find myself revisiting the thread and looking at the pictures again and again, and each one really is worth a thousand words. Cool!
Well, I'll start off slowly this month. I'm still doing the first Rainbow-Six Vegas, but I've been so busy that I haven't made much progress. This first shot, which I posted in another thread, also, is at the beginning before I even get to Las Vegas. It's completely un-noteworthy except for the fact that I'm shooting at my own shadow. I emptied half a clip before realizing what a dumbass I was. lol.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/RainbowSixV1.jpg
Here's my first helicopter ride to Vegas, and, due to Nyghtfall's comment about no traffic in a screenshot from Vegas 2, I noticed the bumper to bumper action in this one. I would have never noticed the difference if it weren't for his observations.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/RainbowSixV2.jpg
That's all I've got for now. I hope to see even more folks poking that PrtScrn key and sharing their gaming moments visually for us to see. I'd really like to see some Far Cry 2 shots, myself, since that will be my next game. Remember, it doesn't have to be anything fancy, and don't hesitate to ask for help if you don't understand the image-posting procedure. It's really easy, and a picture with a few words is enjoyable for all.
By the way, has anybody beaten my 10,000 game FreeCell record? Heh,heh. They were all played on my last computer, and I haven't played the first FreeCell game on this one, since I don't want to start all over again. I'm doing Mahjong Titans and Spyder Solitaire on this one. Edward.

I have resurrected my character in Star Wars Galaxies, which is a MMORPG. I created a character a while back when I tried out the 14 day trial, but never bothered upgrading to a real account after the trial expired. I have never been a big lover of MMO's, but I decided to give it another go. I love the Star Wars films, and I thought that if I was going to give a MMO a real try out it may as well be on one where the plot and characters are already pretty familiar.
I have been playing it for around a week now, and I think that the more I am playing, the more I am getting into it. 99% of the missions are based upon the same principle, go there, kill them, collect this, and return so it can get pretty tedious sometimes. What I like about SWG is that you can also be a pilot and take part in space battles. All the familiar vehicles are there to use, and it breaks the routine of playing fido up nicely:):
I have worked my way up to level 24 so far, and I am playing as a jedi class. I still have a few more levels to go yet before I get my first Lightsabre.
Here's some screenshots:

Cool! I like the Star Wars games, too, and if I ever decide to play a MMORPG, it would probably be that one. What does it cost? I've always been so poor that any extra, regular, payments to anybody were to be avoided at all costs, but I'm a little better off now with my SS benefits, so I could probably do it if I thought it was worth the price.
I think single-player will always be my first choice, however, mostly because I don't want to deal with other real people and the crap I hear about. Edward.

It costs $15 a month for the subscription, and I bought SWG and all addons for $20, which was a one off. The cool thing about SWG is that you can either do the missions yourself or you can team up with other people to complete the tasks. I have mostly being going solo, but on a few tricky missions I have teamed up with other players. There are player guilds you can join, but I haven't got into that side of it yet.
You can challenge or be challenged to a dual with other human players, but otherwise you cannot attack them in-game. I haven't come across any plonkers yet and some of the human players are designated as helpers, and can assist, should you need help. I have found everyone to be pretty friendly and have no complaints on that side. You can get a good idea of how the game works from the 14 day trial, and it's worth giving it a go.:):
Cheers,
Stuart

Either of you guys interested in the new Bioware MMO based on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic?
Just curious.
In reality, I don't game anymore.
I play WoW with my wife in what seems like the 5 minutes of free time we have after the kids are in bed, but before we both pass out from exhaustion, but that is the only "gaming" I do now period.
That being said, both my wife and myself have taken the 13th of November off and one of us is standing in line at midnight to snag the WoW expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. Maybe I'll post some screenshots once I'm up and going.
I got to admit, I hope its good. WoW has been my last line connecting me to the world of gaming and I've come close to giving up on it a few times, along with the "hobby" in general over the past year.

Yep, you're still a gamer and probably will be for life. Heh, heh, heh. I think it's pretty cool that you and your wife play the same game, together, so it's also an integral part of your relationship no matter how little time you play. You may get lucky and have more free time at some point in the future, so don't ever lose your interest in the hobby, even if you can't devote much time to it at the moment.
I know about being too busy for fun, and it seems I spent my whole life working hard and trying to get ahead, and idle time and fun were in short supply. Now that I'm getting pretty old, I'm finally able to recapture small amounts of that childhood joy of being really free to anything I want, and having a game to play is like having a favorite toy to be enjoyed at will. Don't ever throw away your old toys, just in case you get successful or lucky enough to enjoy a second childhood before you die. Heh, heh. Edward.

That's partly why I started playing SWG again, to see if I could get into MMO's. I reckon I will be getting the new game when it comes out. I am lloking forward to it, SWG shows it's age in some parts.

Deffo! Love the other two games.
This month I am showing, yet another sim. This one however is in the air!
IL2: 1946
With out doubt one of the finest games I have ever played and the best flight sim bar none! With 100+ aircraft to fly (with another 200+ being ai only) and campaigns for about 10 nations there is plenty to do in this game. Like most flight sims, the more time up put in the more you get out, it's not an easy game. Difficulty can be scalled though, options such as limted ammo ect can be turned on and off. I play at about 85% realism. I could not get that many diffrent shots as the game does not run well with my widescreen lcd. As a result I can only select some icons, thus my options are very limted. I gets very frustrating! Thats why IL2 is the best game I never play. Role on SoW:BoB!
Note: Due to not being able to slectec a/c markings all a/c are either marked as USAAF or IJA. I will add what airforce the a/c actuly flew for.

This is a KI84Lb (IJA) that I downed with a single burst from the Tempest's 4 20mm cannons

Pity that his mate was on my six! Note the ammo belt for the 20mm.

My Fiat CR.42 (IA) flashes by a huge and outdated Russian bomber, the TB3 (RA) These a/c are well matched, both being slow and easy to get killed while flying them!
http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq111/NoLeftTurn81/il2fb2008-11-0216-33-40-79.jpg
In the cockpit of the Fiat. As you can see the air is often full of lead. It can be game over at any time!
http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq111/NoLeftTurn81/il2fb2008-11-0216-34-03-40.jpg
As the Fiat only has two 12.7mm guns you have to get very close to get a kill, even on a crap plane like the TB3
http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq111/NoLeftTurn81/il2fb2008-11-0216-35-38-06.jpg
Job done! Heading for home!
http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq111/NoLeftTurn81/il2fb2008-11-0216-35-56-63.jpg

Apart from that's it's been Fallout 3 and midterms.

Here are a few of NBA 2K9....I have posted some of these in another thread....but here are a few for this thread also
Notice the wrinkles in the shirt and shorts of Garnett....as the players run and move around, their clothing actually moves also....it is pretty impressive in motion.

A hot time in the old town, tonight.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/RainbowSixV5.jpg
Look! Full frontal nudity. Heh, heh. One member of my squad whistled at this mannequin when he passed and made me chuckle.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/RainbowSixV6.jpg
And finally, this may not look like much to you, but it's a beautiful sight to me. In this level, "The Dam," I had to hold off the bad guys while my guy hacked the computer to open these bypass gates, thereby relieving the pressure and preventing the Hoover Dam from collapsing; and it was a pisser. (Or should I say gusher? heh, heh) I worked on that thing for close to three hours, trying everything I could think of, but either me or my computer hacker kept getting killed.
I finally gave in and looked at a walkthrough, and I was pretty close. In my experimentation, I had already tried both ways the author recommended, but I was missing an important part. There was another door that opened at the other end of the dock, and the two bad guys inside were sneaking up behind us and wasting us with a grenade. It still took me a few tries, but two clips, two grenades, and some quick footwork finally brought success. Whew! Tough one.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/RainbowSixV7.jpg
Good games, both of them. Vegas 2 is prettier, but they are both fun, and I've enjoyed them. I guess I'll order Far Cry 2, tomorrow, since I'll probably finish up over the weekend. I'll take a couple more shots, if I see anything interesting, and that will wrap it up until I get into Far Cry 2. Have a great weekend, everyone. Edward.

Bought it yesterday, was very torn between it and F3, but I figured that if I got F3 I might not leave my room till Christmas!
First things first. This game was a bitch to install! Had to install it, a patch and up date my drivers. Then when I clicked dx10 settings it would not run it right. Several attemts later and after turning off dx10 I got it to run but only in windowed mode, then it would not run at all. After a few more restarts I went online and got a fix for the problem. From the time I sat down till I played the game was 2 hours 23 mins!
Anyhow, it seems to be a very good game. Not far into it at all yet, still trying to get used to the Iron sights only shooting. Looks great too!
http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq111/NoLeftTurn81/FarCry22008-11-0914-43-37-52.jpg
One of the annoying things about the game is that everone tries to kill you! This outpost has a few guys in it. They dont know me but as soon as I pop my head up they will start blasting! I know its a war torn contry, but still, its a pain! I am heading towards a safe house and have already been attacked 3 times!
So my thinking is to attack first!
http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq111/NoLeftTurn81/FarCry22008-11-0914-44-57-29.jpg
Mopping up. You can just see they guy on the groung through the iron sights. There is no crosshair by default, its tricky to get the hang of! Playing on the hardest setting, foes can take alot (too much tbh) of damage!

http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq111/NoLeftTurn81/FarCry22008-11-0914-56-19-02.jpg

What little time I had in the last couple of weeks I tried out the "COD:World at War" Beta, 3 maps were offered and all were fun but I really enjoyed the Roundhouse map, great for sniping. The others were Japan and Malik, which was my least favourite.
These were all MP maps, but I wish they would have least added a SP map tp try out, the gameplay structure was exactly like Modern Warfare, earn rank and you earn upgrades.
If I do buy the game it would be for the SP missions and not the MP.

I decided to post a few pics from the demo of Left 4 Dead which will be released on Nov 18th I think.
http://i422.photobucket.com/albums/pp305/merlin3791/11game.jpg
You start off on the roof of this building and the action starts as soon as you open the first door.
http://i422.photobucket.com/albums/pp305/merlin3791/22game.jpg
You can pick from any of the 4 characters to play as. These are 3 other characters on your team.
http://i422.photobucket.com/albums/pp305/merlin3791/33game.jpg
After you fight your way out of the first building, you start heading through a dark and rainy cityscape where the zombies are plentiful!

http://i422.photobucket.com/albums/pp305/merlin3791/55game.jpg
The zombies seem to prefer dark and quiet areas. I was warned not to set off car alarms and accidently shot a car setting one off. Big mistake, the zombies starting pouring out of every building and alley way attacking us!

You cant control their movement, they do their own thing. They do help out by getting zombies off your back as well as healing you on occasion.

I got Far Cry 2 installed and activated, but I didn't patch it. The readme seemed to be almost completely about multiplayer, so I decided to try doing without it. I had gotten a box saying I needed to update my video drivers, and I did have some stuttering and artifacts, so I stopped and updated my drivers; and it seems to play fine, now. I'm using 1920X1200 resolution and DX10, and it's really pretty.
My problem is that PrtScrn doesn't seem to work. What are you using, Joe? It's late, and I didn't pursue it very far, but some of the forums said something about running the game in windowed mode for PrtScrn to work. I haven't tried that, yet, but I will, tomorrow. Otherwise, I guess I'll have to get a program to capture the shots. I've heard of Fraps, but tell me again what other programs you guys use and recommend.
It's midnight, and I have to work early, so I'm done for the night. It may be Sunday before I can get back to it, but it's sure looking pretty good, so far. Edward.

Edward.
Yah, it was a total pain for me to install to!
I'm using Fraps Ed. Its so easy to use. Just create a folder, then in the main Fraps menu just change the directory to that folder. Play the game with Fraps running in the back groung (minimized) and hit F10 to take shots.

It thought that as well, until i noticed a screenshot folder it looks like the atomatically saves your PrtScrn images.
Mine was \My Documents\My Games\Far Cry 2\Screenshots
This is the only shot i have taken so far-

Edward, I use fraps for almost all of my screenshots, Also, the game wouldn't continue the install unless the auto update was left to continue.
I ignored the "update Drivers" box and I have not run into any video problems(yet), there were no problems with the install and runs smooth as silk, it looks great.

On Friday I was buming about the town and popped into my loacal game shop. One of my mates works there and he convinced me to by Fallout3.
Well! I had bought FarCry 2 over this game and I thought FC2 would be easier to get into. How wrong I was! It is with out doubt one of the best games I have ever played and it is the best game I have played this year! The game does have an Oblivion feel to it, but it is just so much more polished and works far better. I was worried about the VATS combat system, but in truth it is great! It just works so well. Same can be said for the Pip Boy 3000.
Here is a landscape pic. The game looks great, you really get a sence of destruction and isolation. Note the Washington tower in the background.

This has been one of the high lights of the game so far. In the first town I went to, Megaton, there is a huge dud nuke in the center of the town. A guy in the bar asked me to blow it and the town up. I said I would, but first I did some missions for some of the people in the town. After doing some missions I decided I would blow the town but figured I should take all I could carry first! What followed was a 45min battle between me and the towns people. I just about won, but I left with the best gear the town had! This is the result of my efforts!

When using VATS the view switichs to a 3rd person "cinamatic" angle. Most times its great, but if indoors the camera can get stuck in a wall. Raider down!

Heh, heh, heh. Well, I'm going to stick with Far Cry 2, for now, but it will be nice to have something to look forward to. What exactly is the VATS system of combat, and what does the Pip Boy 3000 do?
Oblivion was the last rpg I tried, and, although I managed to finish it, I was severely bummed because I couldn't map "move forward" to my right mouse button. It's the way I've always played, and using the "W" key is very difficult for me. Do me a favor and see if this game supports that mapping, and I also need to reverse the "Y" axis mouse movement so that pushing forward looks down instead of up. If I can have these preferences, I will really start looking forward to this game, especially now that you seem to like it a lot. Edward.

The VATS is, for lack of a better phrase, turn based combat. Now, you can play the game in real time, no bother, but the vats is also great! In the pic I posted you can see the zombie's torso is slected, the 95% means I have a 95% chance of hitting the torso (you can also pick head, arms and legs with the % of a hit varying accordingly) When in VATS mode the game is "paused" you stack up attacks based on you attack points and how good your are with the wepon. When happy with your selection you press E and watch some fancy camera work and you make your kill, or dont depending on how things go. I used the VATS about 60-70% of the time, partly as it is so cool, but also it is easier if you have a swar of monsters coming at you!
The Pib Boy 3000, is really just an inventory, its just the way its done that makes it so great!
Any other question? Just ask!:D:
EDIT; Just saw your edit Ed. The Y" axis can be changed. Foward can not be mapped to the mouse though. Like Oblivion though Q can be pressed and that will keep the player moving foward untill it is pressed again. Not the best situition in the world, but it will be less of an issue when VATS is being used. The only other thing I can think of is to re-map it to space. The space key is used for jump but it is not needed very often.

Thanks, Joe. That's a game killer for me, so I guess I won't be playing it. It's a shame, because a good rpg would be a nice change, and I don't understand why they don't allow that particular mapping. It can't be that big a deal to offer it like all the fps's do, and I know there are a lot of other people that prefer right-click to move forward, also. Oh well, at least there are quite a few other shooters to play at the moment, so I guess it's not that important. Edward.

Well, I've gotten started on Far Cry 2 and maybe have two or three hours into it. I think it's going to be a good game, but it sure is different from the original; and, at this point, I don't think it's going to be as impressive, overall. People have already mentioned that there is a lot of traveling around to complete various quests, and the story seems overly complicated and confusing, not that it makes much difference. It is pretty, and, similar to the original, it gets pretty hard in some places. Here are my first few screenshots.
The character animations and facial expressions, etc., are some of the best I've ever seen. This is just some guy I had to threaten to get him to transmit some false information to some group or another so that I could ambush them.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/FarCry21.png
Driving around the mountains and jungles on these little dirt roads is senic and relatively easy, although everybody you come across wants to shoot at you.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/FarCry22.jpg
The environments are realistic and delightful. The breezes make everything sway and leaves blow, and the animals, like these goats, are very lifelike as they move around. The ambient sounds are good, too.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/FarCry23.png
Lou noticed the blurry edges around one of Joe Cool's screenshots when he was using the "iron sights," and I noticed it too. I guess it's supposed to simulate squinting down the sights. You might notice I've got a bad guy in my sights, here, but the range was way too long to take a shot.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/FarCry24.jpg
You've all seen how enemies will sometimes get "stuck" in their death throes, thrashing around and hung up in all sorts of crazy positions. This guy was like that. He was dead, but he was stuck behind the machine gun and doing a wild dance. I thought it was funny and decided to take a screenshot, but just as I pushed the key to take the shot, some unknown force sent him flying through the air, and this is what I got.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/FarCry25.jpg
That is all I've got, so far. I'm still not too happy about the quality of the screenshots with either PrtScrn or Fraps. They all are a little darker than they should be, and they don't show the incredible detail I see when I am playing. The graphics really are special, and the game seems to run smoothly, so far, so I guess I shouldn't complain. I'll be posting more pictures as I progress. Edward.

Cool! Killing your buddy is a permanent thing in this game, isn't it? I've saved both of mine several times, already, and one time I even reloaded a game to keep her from dying. I don't know how important it is, overall, but they have each helped me out a couple of times, so I figured I'd try to keep them around.
The explosions are pretty neat. I completed a side quest to blow up a convoy, and I thought I had gotten a couple really good screenshots of a truck tumbling through the air, but I guess I hit the wrong key. They weren't in the folder when I checked. Oh well, I'll get more, tonight.
How's your Malaria, Lou? Heh, heh. I've noticed the game has several built-in annoyances, including vehicles that wear out fast, even with a little fender bender, Malaria attacks, and jammed guns, usually right when you need them the most. I'll bet I've left fifty vehicles smoking beside the road, so far, and I'm only five hours into the game. The weapons are anemic, too, but I figure that will change as I progress and am able to buy better ones. Three headshots to bring down an enemy just ain't right, you know?
I'm having fun in spite of these tribulations, though, and I still look forward to putting in a couple of hours every chance I get. I'm on my way to the gun shop, tonight, and I think I'm about to get a pistol with a silencer. That will be a welcome addition, since I'm not having much luck with being stealthy, so far, and alerting the rest of the bad guys result in a whole horde of them after me. In some instances, I've had to give up trying to clean up a whole village like I usually do and just complete the quest and then run like hell. Heh, heh.
Good shots. Thanks, and keep posting them. Edward.

Duh! That was the very first job we got in the first minutes of the game, wasn't it? I'm sure the directions were plastered all over the screen in big, bold, letters, too, but I guess the lesson that I could do it throughout the game just evaporated right out of my mind. Thanks, Lou, for setting me straight.
There were times I would drive one of those machine-gun equipped jeeps until it was belching black smoke and on the verge of exploding, and then I would have to walk forever, it seemed. I can sure be dumb, sometimes. Another thing I keep reminding myself to do is find out how to change from frag grenades to fire bombs. In the heat of battle, I just throw whatever I can get my hands on, and then I forget all about looking up the key or number, or whatever, until the next time. Heh, heh. By the end of the game, I'll learn how to play it, I guess. lol.
OK, now that I have a wrench, I've got one less thing to bitch about in this game. I've noticed something else, too. All the gripe about driving around all the time hasn't bothered me, at all. In fact, flooring the vehicle and hauling ass around all those curvy, mountainous, dirt roads, through the desert, and down the railroad tracks, is a hoot; even more so now that I know I can fix my ride when I run into a tree. Ha!
By the way, I did get the sniper rifle; and it is a pleasure to finally get a one-shot, one-kill, weapon. I've also fallen into the habit of just running over those bad guys at the pesky checkpoints, instead of stopping and doing battle with them. I'll try to get a screenshot without wrecking myself.
Time to start my next mission and go to work. I'm supposed to be there in one minute, and I haven't even taken a shower yet. I'll check back in, later. Have a great day. Edward.

I was a sucker for the tropical paradise setting in Far Cry, and Far Cry 2 is just as senic. Here I stopped just to take a break and look at the countryside.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/FarCry213.jpg
I walked over to the fence and saw movement down on the valley floor. When I looked through my scope, I saw this Wildebeast (or whatever it is) walking around and grazing, and I thought it was a delightful little touch to the game.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/FarCry214.jpg
I swung around to check out a flock of birds near the mountain top on the other side of the valley and was pleasantly surprised to see a hang glider sitting there. I really loved the hang gliding in the original Far Cry, so I've got something to look forward to whenever I get to that place in my travels.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/FarCry215.jpg
The airboats in this game are a far cry (pun intended) from that hot rod boat in Half Life 2, but they are still a lot of fun. They are much slower, although they will get up a head of steam after a while, and they are very easy to control. Too bad the waters aren't as clear and pretty as in the first Far Cry, but the scenery is still nice.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/FarCry216.jpg
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/FarCry217.jpg
And finally, this ugly little shot highlights a minor complaint I have. Most of the time, when you hit the "heal" key, you give yourself a shot of some miracle stuff that cures you, but sometimes the game cuts to one of these gory little scenes where you dig slugs out of your own body with a knife or your finger. Aside from being absolutely unrealistic, it seems to be just a little over the top, complete with a little squirt of blood, and I think they could have left it out without hurting the game one bit. There's enough other blood from headshots, etc., and this feature seems out of place.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/FarCry218.jpg
I must admit that the game is starting to get a little repetitive. Seeing the hang glider got me excited, and if I could find enough of those damned diamonds to get some upgrades, it would help; but I'm about ready for something new in the game. Whether or not that happens, I'm really having a good time with it, and it's a pleasure knowing that it is going to last a while.
OK, I'm done for the night. I'll keep my trusty camera handy, and I'll report back in over the weekend. Edward.

Edward, the fastest way to get diamonds is to get jobs from the "unknown" guy on the cell phoneI think he's the "Jackal" you “assassinate” targets and you usually get 10 diamonds or more, look for the Cell tower for jobs.
I found a glider but its alot more difficult to control than the ones in Farcry1, and there's a diamond case right below the glider(it's the same glider you took a screenshot of).

Ha! That's great! I took screenshots of the same mission. I was going to just save up my shots to begin next month's thread, but I'll go ahead and post a few more in this one.
These first two are just dummy bad guys who allowed me to sneak up on them. Stealth is difficult in this game, and it seems like the enemy has X-ray vision most of the time. You expect them to try to flank you, but I suspect they sometimes just spawn behind you, and even when you think you've cleared the area, there are usually one or two like these guys who hang back to ambush you. I've learned to scout out the whole area, and these two guys are now unemployed. Heh, heh.

I've been doing the cell-tower missions regularly, and I suspected the same thing about the person on the line with the disguised voice. Is there an upgrade you can buy so that you can carry more weapons? I've got a good sniper rifle, now, along with a silenced pistol and access to other weapons, but it's a little perplexing to not be able to have a sniper rifle and a good assault rifle at the same time. I think my next shopping spree will be for accuracy and reliability upgrades, since I'm really tired of my weapons jamming right when I'm in the middle of a fierce firefight.
The hang gliders in Far Cry were very easy to fly and very realistic, I thought. I'm sorry to hear they aren't as user-friendly in this game, but I'm still looking forward to giving it a try. Fun game, though, huh? I'm really enjoying the experience. Edward.

I got Call of Duty: World at War today and have played it for around an hour. There are no suprises so far regards gameplay and visuals. As with some other Call of Duty games, you take on the role of soldier within the US, British and Russian Armies. The game is set in World War II and looks and plays very well. The facial animations are excellent and very believable. The screenshots I took don't do it justice and I had to resize them too so they lost some quality there. Anyways, here's some screenshots:

This one is the start of a mission, and it's a beach landing.

Past the beach-head and taking on the enemy.

These two soldiers were hidden in the grass, and when you get close they jump up and run at you with bayonets fixed. Wish I had reloaded before I moved forward now:p:

This screenshot is from a night mission, and the enemy has just fired flares in an ambush move.

Not that I am playing the game, but I thought it would be nice to post a graphical reference on how far 3D FPS have come:

Ah, yes. The first, the one, the original, Wolfenstein 3D.
Ya know what I find particularly funny about playing older shooters? Having to re-learn just how basic they really are. For example, I re-installed Wolf 3D to enjoy a nostalgic stroll through the old castle one night, and actually had to re-train myself to the fact that you can't look up.

I agree, it is amazing how far we've come. These days, people complain about things like, "The maps are too big and there's too much driving around." Heh, heh. Edward.

Here are a few from Rainbow Six Vegas 2....this is a very fun game....just not anything new to speak of than the 1st Vegas. I kind of wish that they would have picked a differnt location, just for that reason....but the game is still very good.
Edward has pretty much covered this game pretty well.....so just enjoy the screenshots.
I would like to own this vehichle.

Man, that is one good looking game, but maybe you guys can help me out with something.
I have some cash burning a hole in my pocket and I have to make a choice, R6V2 is now pretty cheap and I'm thinking of picking that up along with either Fallout3 or Left 4 dead.
I am a diehard fan of FPS so Left 4 dead is a no brainer but Fallout3 looks soooo good.
Is Fallout3 a FPS hybred?, all gameplay video I see of it, it looks like a FPS but I keep hearing it's a RPG, what is it exactly, all you members who play it chime in and fill me in.

Fallout 3 is presented in the classic FPS fashion. You see nothing but your surroundings ahead of your character and his arm holding his weapon in front of himself. You can fight in the game in this manner, but when you enter the V.A.T.S. mode, it becomes turn-basedand you get to aim your shots at different body parts. Take out their legs and they can't advance as fast. Cripple the shooting arm and they lose accuracy, etc.
There are MANY quests in many different areas and infinite ways to customize your character as you level up. Hence the RPG side of things. Fallout 3 is one of the best games I have played.
Throw in the post-apocalyptic Washington D.C. setting and you have a definite winner.

Lou....i have not personally played Fallout 3 yet....I have the survival edition sitting here on my desk to play....I am going to start it in another couple of weeks....after Vegas 2. I have been looking forward to this game all year, and it is gonna be my pick for game of the year.....so I really have high expectations of this game.
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is a great game.....but I am thinking it will be no where near as good as Fallout 3. Not even in the ball park, actually.
Also I want to thank Rob and pcfreak and Merlin3791.... for the help on picking out my new video card.....I just love it and the above screenshots are from my new XFX GTX 260 Black Edition....thanks again for your guys help

Thanks NSF and GW for the input on Fallout3, I will be picking up it up along with R6V2, I'll wait later and maybe pick up Left 4 Dead when the price drops(I have a strong feeling that the price will drop quicker than Fallout3), one other question, does R6V2 have co-op missions.

I'm really upset that you can't map move forward to right mouse button in Fallout 3. I would really like to play the game, but I know from Oblivion what a constant vexation it is for me to not have the controls the way I like. Oh well. You guys show us some shots.
Gridiron, those Vegas 2 shots are beautiful. I think they are clearer than mine were. What resolution are you playing at? I wonder if .jpg files would be better than the bitmap files Fraps produces. I may check out the paid version so that I can get .jpg shots, if for no other reason than the file sizes would be a lot smaller. I could change them in PhotoShop, of course, but that's too much trouble. I've just been uploading the whole, unreduced, shots to PhotoBucket and letting them do the resizing. (Yeah, I'm lazy, sometimes.)
I agree that Vegas 2 is very much like the first one, but it's still a pretty good shoot, isn't it? That guy in the second "shooting around corners" shot sure is holding his mouth funny. Heh, heh. It's fun seeing shots of a game I've played and remembering the scenes.
Meanwhile, Far Cry 2 is great! I'm settled into the pace of things, now, and dealing with deteriorating weapons and vehicles, malaria, lots of driving, constant skirmishes, and occasional boss battles, makes for hours and hours of fun. I glanced at my statistics, and they say I've played eleven hours and I'm only twenty percent through. I like it! At this rate, it might last me through Christmas. Here are two more screenshots with stories.
OK, I saunter out of my safe house and hop in my brand-new, shiny, armored Jeep. As I'm looking down and checking out my map and current mission, one of those crazy-driving idiots heads straight for me in a little junky car. By now, these guys are "ho-hum," so I hit the "c" key to man the machine gun and wasted him, straightaway. He had bumped into me, though, as they always do if you don't kill them in time, and my new Jeep started rolling downhill into a pond. I hit the "c" key again to change to the driver's position, but I couldn't stop the motion, and, as the water closed in over my head, I had just an instant of virtual panic, just like you'd feel in the real world. Heh, heh. It only lasted a second, and then I hit the key to exit the vehicle and swam to the surface, but I thought it was so cool that a game could evoke realistic feelings like that.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/FarCry226.jpg
I'll just show you this one and let you form your initial impressions before I explain it.
http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo206/OldsterHolster/Screen%20Shots/FarCry225.jpg
I'll bet you thought, "Big deal! The trigger-happy, blood-lusting, old fart wasted a herd of Zebras, so what?" lol. Actually, I haven't shot the first animal in this game. I hit and killed a Zebra in my Jeep when it ran in front of me, but that was an accident. Anyway, I figure they coded the animals to die with any contact with a vehicle, and, as I walked out of another safe house, I watched these three Zebras wander into my parked vehicle and then fall over dead. Heh, heh, heh. I thought it was funny.
You folks enjoy your weekend, and keep posting shots. I really enjoy looking at them. I'll see if I can get something interesting to start off next month's thread in a day or so. Edward.

Lou....playing co-op with you and Edward sounds like alot of fun.
Edward....I am playing at 1680X1050.....with AA maxed .....I save the pics as a bitmap.....then upload them to my website, which is flickr.......your screenshots of the game looked great too me Edward, they made me want to get the game.
Also Edward.....I am sure someone will figure out how to do what you want to do with the controls in Fallout 3......It really would be ashame if you missed out on this experience....This game will be modded heavily, so surely someone could figure this out for you....at least I really hope so
I am so glad to hear that FarCry2 is also a long game.....I just love them that way....i have soooo much great gaming ahead of me....i am really happy!

Fallout3 is like Oblivion with guns and a much better post-nuke world.
Then multiply the combat, imerssion and rpg elements by 10
The multiply all that by another 100.
You then get F3.
