Been waiting for this new website to go live for quite a while now and now it finally has.

It's still in beta though, so I'm going to hold off a bit before using the new service that legally offers some of the best PC games from years past for direct download - super cheap (average price of $5.99), retooled for Win XP / Vista and . . . with ZERO DRM!

Great news that three of their initial offerings are Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics. They aslo have some other wonderful titles like MDK 1 and 2, Descent 1, 2 and 3, Sacrifice, Giants: Citizen Kabuto, Freespace 2 and several others with more promised as the site picks up steam (meaning momentum, not the Valve thing).

This is the way a whole catalog of terrific classic PC games should be archived and sold online from now on and I plan to support it.

I already purchased games from them last week Terry. Everything worked just fine with the purchase and downloads. I bought Fallout 1 and 2 for myself and MDK for my wife. Not only do you get the download of the game, but you can also download the full manual, avatars, full soundtrack!, and sometimes more.

Downloads are in .exe format, so you do not have to worry about burning them as an .iso. Also, Fallout 1 FINALLY works great for me on both XP and Vista. I already owned Fallout 1 and 2, but this was easier and fixed my Fallout 1 problems on XP.

I am very excited about the service myself and am looking forward to hopefully an expanded library. I may pick up Stonekeep next. It is old, but I loved it when it first came out but never finished it. For $6, now would be the perfect time.

For anyone else interested, no DRM, can download the games as many times as you want, cool extras and they rework the .exe files to run properly on XP and Vista.

That's great news Rob and now I feel much more confident in grabbing a few old classics from the list.

Don't need to repurchase Fallout 1 and 2 though, as my dual-game re-release already works great on XP and Vista (they came with the full printed manuals as well). I lost Fallout Tactics though and would like to play a few others on the list. Stonekeep may be first and I never even bothered with Lionheart. Perhaps both will finally find their way into my RPG collection.

Cheers, Terry

Good to know it's up! From the gang who brought us The Witcher.

Praying very hard for the first Master of Orion to magically show up in their inventory. And Master of Magic, the original Populous, Syndicate, Magic Carpet... I could go on and on.

I'm not a big fan of Steam, but I did get the original X-Com and am playing it now. Amazing that it's every bit as good as I remember it, 15 years later. What an incredible game.

I have never played X-Com, but have heard so many people claim how awesome the game is, I would definitely have to pick it up if it came out on GOG.

It's not everyone's cup of tea, but if you like turn-based strategy with RPG elements and a global strategy-type game, it should be fun. You fight aliens in a play field like Jagged Alliance or Silent Storm, capture them, research them and their technology all while trying to keep the world governments happy so they can keep funding your organization. Amazing depth for a 15-year old, 20 Mb game.

If you already use Steam, it's only $4.99, so that's why I bought it there. I figured it was worth $4.99 and dealing with Steam to play one of my favorite old games. Only thing is that there is no X-Com manual with the Steam version, but you can download it from here:

If/when you get it, try out the first one, X-Com: UFO Defense to see if you like it before buying X-Com: Terror From the Deep, which is more of the same only on bigger maps and under water. The others in the series aren't really worth your time, in my opinion.

i have a question, if you bought the game, say MDK, but if you somehow lost the HD you installed MDK in, do you have to pay another $6.00 to get it?

Nope. Once you buy the game, it is tied to your account and you can redownload as many times as you want. You can also burn the .exe file or back it up on a jump drive with no problem.

Even better, with these being older games, quite a few will fit confortably on one little DVD. Some of them will even fit on a CD and a decent-sized Flashdrive will probably hold them all.

With zero DRM and being reworked to play on WinXP and Vista, this is a great way to keep enjoying all your PC favorites for years to come - with no worries about limited activation codes.

Cheers, Terry

Great site! I'm very much tempted to get Descent 1, 2 & 3.

Are the games they sell identical to the originals, or did they make any compatibility tweaks and such?

No old adventure games????

Wow, you're right. I wouldn't have noticed that there are no adventure games if you hadn't mentioned it. Hopefully, that'll change soon. I'd love to see some old Sierra adventure games available.

But you did remind me to check out the site again and now I see they have Ghost Master there. :D: That, Jagged Alliance and Shogo are the games I might pick up soon.

I need to support sites like this, since I moan so much about the "good old days" of PC gaming. :p:

They made compatability tweaks, and so far all of the games I have purchased run flawlessly on both XP and Vista.

Mara, hopefully it is just a matter of time. I have seen many comments about the lack of adventure games, so you are not alone.

Unreal Gold added to the list.

Probably the longest FPS made and you'll be quite surprised how well it still looks on a new system. I have the CD and loaded it up a while back, tweaked the video settings and was very surprised.
