Let's hope that the U.N. grasps the merit in seeing through an orderly, peaceful transition to a new, free, self-governing Iraq (sans the violent religious fanatics - domestic and foreign) so that their lives will not have been given in vain.

Cheers, Terry

The woman that took this picture was fired, according to Foxnews website. Now I find that disturbing.

So do I. That is just another example of why you ultimately cannot trust one single media source fully.

Which is good advice at any time, but my gist was more of what is so controversial about this picture that someone should lose their job? Apparently there is an Army policy against this, but being fired? Are there people that don't know that American Soldiers are being killed overseas? The bodies are obviously being treated repectfully so no stink is being put on the Army. So why have the person fired?

Yeah I got that too, I just don't understand it, nor can I comment on any US Army policies while I don't live in the US.

I just find in general you have more and more examples of media people being fired for reasons that just don't compute.

It's not an Army policy. It's not a traditional military policy per se. Take a guess where it DOES come from. The political wing of the Pentagon wanted to "spare the American public the horrors of war, and spare the Families of those soldiers any additional torment."

Which is why she was fired.

Wasn't aware of that little tidbit until now and yes it is a bit disturbing.

FYI:

Here is a link to another news article about this sorry, media spin situation -

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=542&e=8&u=/ap/mortuary_photos

I don't buy the official statement from the Pentagon for a single second because the photo does NOT show human remains. It shows very dignified coffins tightly draped with crisp new U.S. flags in a proper, fully secure environment, being very well tended by impeccably uniformed military personnel with great respect and the utmost care.

That hardly "dishonors" the memory of these fallen soldiers and it does NOT in any way violate the current policies they cited.

Cheers, Terry

it's funny, because the Sun Times is usually a conservative paper
