I enjoyed it. It had the WORST start of any game I have ever played. I suspect people didn't even bother getting out of the trench area and stopped playing. Great game though.

That game roxd, plain & simple ! only lvl4 took the gamers ingenuity and tossed it out the window,( carefully proscribed order of actions to follow if you ever want to get past this level, cuz the french wanted a 'stealth' level) but after lvl4, you can get back to being creative and go about it any way you want. if you ever get stumped, go to this link:

And it is worth finishing just to find out how this very original storyline ends.
But let me save you some aggrevation, Start a 2nd save before you enter the elevator at the end of lvl3. Seems the french didn't like the idea of 'level saves' either

PC Powerplay said it was the best game they'd played.. they had it on their coverdisc when it first was released. I, and 99.9% of the other people seemed to agree that it was HORRIBLE. It looked ok,the idea was good, but it wasn't pulled off.
Im just going by what ive seen in the demo, read from other peoples opinions and seen in reviews. The games been out for quite a while now and there hasn't been any raving about it on any forums.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it was horrible, just that we, as gamers, have become 'jaded' in what we expect from a title. Or was all the ho-ha over D00M just my imagination? (yes the original D00M, you know that pixelated shootem up )It is not as polished a title as we would like, but you gotta consider the source. But I cant recall ANY title that focused so much attention to detail. Maybe I am mistaken, but, is there any other titles that have brass scrolling bolted on the wood of thier emplaced weapons ? Little things like that kind of eye-candy makes me appreciate the efforts put into this title. But now if the french had put that kind of attention into the steak (gameplay) as they have the sizzle (eye-candy), they would have made a kicka55 game. But remember, they are more concerned about 'appearences' than action, just look at thier history or government.

Gameplay is what makes a game fun. Without good gameplay the game is nothing. Graphics of course help to make the gave give a better first impression, but when it comes to it, a great game has both.
If i saw Iron Storm in a budget bin and was really cheap, and a number of people said the game was actually quite good, then id pick it up. Going by the demo, reviews and other peoples opinions when the game was released.. it wasn't worth looking at, let alone spending money on. Of course id be happy to be proved wrong.. guess that has a chance of happening when i see it really cheap.

$9 american bucks at Wal-mart, the same price as any issue of a gaming magazine. Heck I didn't buy till it hit the bargain bins, that may be why I dont feel burned :): just had some cash in my pocket and jonesed for a new title, even if i went home with 'monopoly', I was coming home with something new to play. So far the most recent title that I have been burned by is : JointOperations-TyphoonRising. dont believe the hype printed on the box, I will sell my copy & key for $10 american bucks so that I can raid the bargain bins again. Novalogic got thier act together with the BHD & BHDTS titles and made a product full of sweetness, then they lost it with JOTR. But you gotta look at what they were trying to pull off, for that I tip my hat, just wish there was a little more truth in advertisement, cuz it is 'slide-show-combat' heck a few times I actually 'moonwalked' like mike cuz of the lag-fest. but gotta expect that on a server hosting 150 ppl. So I hosted an off-line LAN co-op, still choppy as heck, and that is offline (my cr8 meets or beats the requirements) so I saddle up my 56k and hit the BlackHawkDown servers and play LAG-FREE !!! JOTR is just collecting dust

Novalogic havn't made a quality title since Delta Force 2. DF: BHD was good, but nothing special. Since DF:Landwarrior their games have been downhill. I used to play DF2 on 56K Modem with players all over the world with no lag at all. It was awesome. Then when DF: Landwarrior was released, they did something to the netcode and lag started. (not to mention cheaters).
If i see Iron storm for $10 i'll get it for sure. Although i dont think its gone down that low just yet.. i'll have a look when im next at the shops.

Actually, you can get it for that price (I did) or less. I've played it somewhat and left off in the church level, maybe a month or so ago now. It's not the best looking game but is far superior than some stinkers I've tried. Sometimes the sound would go all wonky on me but I think that mostly happened in the very beginning trench parts cuz I don't remember it really happening up to where I stopped at. I'll go back and finish it sometime. Right now I've been only playing Jedi Outcast and after that I'll go back to either DOOM 3 or something else.

I also remembered Rattlesnake, I kept my eye out for IronStorm cuz of the demo I had from PCGamer mag, but here is a post from Baron Waste from the IronStorm boards:
Migwell:
Dragosani is right: It depends on how much imagination you put into it. Look at some of my posts, and you'll see what I mean -- yes, it leads you by the nose, but you can squirm around a bit and have fun with it. What I love about the game is what many of the reviews have said:
http://www.game-over.net/reviews.ph...tures&id=89
"It is the premise and feel of the world that attracted me to the most. Iron Storm's makeup is like WWI mentality on steroids. Tanks and guns are built on WWI models, only they're augmented with modern advancements. On the other hand, WWI mentality thinking, like reckless infantry tactics of going over the top, is still preferred...
"Even the weapons themselves mirror a WWI mentality. You're actually issued a melee weapon in the form of a saber; a weapon of privilege to officers in the old 19th century military. While your pistol may have a silencer, your machine gun looks more like a retrofitted Maxim gun; big and bulky..."
http://pc.ign.com/articles/375/375814p1.html
"From the early levels that take place on both sides of the front line in the trenches of a hard fought war to the heavily armored trains and wrecked Reichstag, this is a deeply screwed up world. Everything is dark and rusty and more than a little ruined. You get the feeling like the whole thing could just fall apart and on top of your head at a moment's notice. Much of this is due to the fantastic texture work that went into the environments of the various levels. Things are just not nice and fancy in this world. Everything is made from the earth. Metal, wood, and dirt. The brown and gray color scheme brings this depressing reality to life and the construction of the ruined towns, steel fortresses, and war torn battlefields add to the flavor. It looks as though there is nothing left of Europe but a charred and bloody crater.
"Equipment and weapon design also helped bring the game to life as well fusing more modern engineering with a 20's and 30's feel to it. Many of the weapons look like massive and solid pieces of metal. There's none of this pansy plastic added. It's all wood and iron and you had better be strong to carry it. Of course not all of the weapons are so severe, but even those that are lighter weight and look more like modern fighting utensils have the stark design of utility without comfort."
-- Except for the emplaced machine guns, which have this marvelous baroque fretwork that no 'real world' military would bother with, today....
Overall, the impression is of a world where the 20th Century just never happened -- the Great War ate it.
I'm fascinated by it, and wish seriously for -more-, but since the company that produced it has gone out of business, it's not likely.
In the meantime, screen caps from it make GREAT Windows desktop wallpaper...
