With the recent amount of clan recruiting that I've been seeing around here, I'm curious - who here is in a clan? Who here is considering it? If you are, what do you like, and what don't you like? Do you think it's silly to take things so seriously, or do you prefer the RPG aspect of being in a "military" clan? Discuss amongst yaselves.

I was co-leader of a clan for the original Unreal Tournament. Since the game was pretty much dead we moved to UT2004 then disbanded because no one (including myself) was interested anymore. We sure were a success in the original though. We were ranked #1 at IGL in a bunch of categories until they screwed up their records and had to delete everything.

In my opinion the best part of being in a clan is the camaraderie between members. Even though my clan has been disbanded for a while, I still talk to the core members almost daily. Competing is great as long as it's done for fun and not taken too seriously. Games are meant to be fun, not to induce stress (keyboard smashing moments aside, those are unavoidable, I think ).

I sub for UT2k4 clans sometimes, and I am in a guild in SWG on Ahazi. I am a mayor of a city on Test Center, but I am not in a clan there because I choose not to be.

Nope, nor will I ever be again. I was in a very large monarchy (300+ members) in the original Asheron's Call, and it wound up making that particular game too much like work. I ended up dropping that character. I prefer working with a bunhc of people I've never met, and just having some fun from time to time.

That's about the closest experience to a clan I've had. To be blunt, I don't want to be on some roster and required to play a game at a specific time and place. It just sucks the fun out of it for me when I feel obligated to a group of other people when it comes to a game. I guess I just don't play well with others in this case.

When I do want to play something on MP, I usually just log on, and join up with a server playing what I want to play.

Nope, and I won't ever be again, for the exact same reason as Chylde. I'm way too busy to be obligated to play a game at a certain with certain people on a regular basis (3dgFF's, if we have any, notwithstanding).

Clearly, my frozen molasses connection precludes me from being in a clan right now. But even when I had cable access I didn't join one.

I fully understand and support those clans that take their play and teamwork seriously. It was because of this that I didn't want to join any clan unless I felt that I was absolutely ready, willing and able to give it the dedication that they ask for in a member.

I support clans. I like to play on their servers, if I'm able to.

Yeah being expected to play at a certain time and all that kinda put me off the idea
of clans.Plus my general all round lack of gaming skill put me off to!

No, I think clans are a waste of time. I would rather just play to have fun!

I'm with Torsion on what I think of clans, and frankly find the constant "hit and run" clan recruiting posts cluttering up the PC forum pretty annoying.

There should be a "clan recruiting forum," as you can see so far, the majority of us could care less about them.

I used to be in the [PCGO] "Mad Posse", but those guys were too wild for me.
