This afternoon, sources close to the game's development confirmed to GameSpot that Fable has indeed reached gold status, and it will ship on September 14, as scheduled.

The news caps Fable's four-year-plus road to release. Initially announced back in May 2001 as Project Ego, the game has been one of the most talked about Xbox titles in the history of the platform. Like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Fable will let players choose whether to pursue a good or evil path through life, with their physical appearance changing along with their alignment. However, unlike KOTOR, the fantasy-themed Fable will have a much broader scope, literally following characters from the cradle to the grave.

Excellent News!

This game is one of the most ambitious games ever, certainly on the console platform anyway. Here's hoping it lives up to the hype.

woo-hoo! Finally, the good games are starting to go gold! Fable has been on my list for a long time, and I can't wait to pick it up! The Box is sorely lackin gin RPGs, and it now looks like several are going to be coming out over the next six months. I can't wait, and Fable is the first major release.

The Sims 2 has gone gold and comes out 3 days after Fable. I know, I know, it's the sims, but I'm quite interested in the attention to detail the developers apparently gave this one. Everything I've read and heard has be very interesdted in the game mechanics and development. (geeze, I sound like one of those people who says they only read Playboy for the stories, lol!)

And of course, I'm eagerly awaiting any indication of HL2 going gold!

Ahahahahaha Chylde likes the sims! And he reads game reviews in playboy! :p:

Yea, fable looks pretty cool, but is anybody else getting the feeling that this could be another release just like black and white? The whole innovative gameplay sounds good, but I hope it isnt the case where he spent so much time making the game different from everything else that it became too different. If you know what I mean...

Cool.

This might be the game that gets me back in the 'relevance' loop.

I know what I'm gonna do when I have the sims 2: create about a dozen of them, all called donjo, then find out how many ways in which sims can be killed! Then I"ll go play some fable, or maybe read some reviews.

The Box is sorely lacking in RPGs

the Box is sorely lacking games in general IMO, I've played nothing but ESPN 2K5 for the past month, and not a single other game interest's me honestly. DX2 was fine for a while and like Thief III just bored me to tears half way into it.

Then again I have little time for games these days and am still predominately a PC gamer, so I just bought the Xbox for sports/racing games and the occasional featured title like Halo/2, Fable and maybe KOTOR II if the PC version is going to be delayed indefinitely.

I also have a feeling Fable might be a bit of a let-down like B&W was, in that games like this sound so much better in previews and words than they really are when it comes to actually playing them...but, hopefully not.

Just picked up the Guide yesterday, so I'll have a full week to read up on some tips for playing the game.
