Hi All,

Just wanted to run this by you.

I could not get IL2 1946 to run on Vista. I did a bit of digging around and in the end I did get it to install. However, I have another problem. When I go into the main menu the mouse does not work and the the resolution changes so only half of the menu can be seen.

I figure this is a widescreen issue right?

So I went over to the Il2 fourms and had a look and found this:

Possibly the most asked question of all time, other than when is patch x.xx coming out?

1) Open the folder where IL2 46 is installed, its usually 'c:\program files\ubisoft\IL2 Sturmovik 1946' if you used the default install option.

Another way of finding this is to right click in the IL2 46 desktop icon to bring up a drop down menu, click on 'Properties' to open up the shortcuts properties menu, go to the 'Shortcut' tab and click on 'Find Target'.

2) Look for a file called 'Conf.ini', open it up in Notepad or a text editor.

3) Look for the following lines of text, they should be near the top:

[window]
width=1920
height=1200
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0

4) Edit the lines 'Width' and 'Height'. These lines correspond to the resolution IL2 will display in. Enter in your screens native resolution or the resolution you want to play IL2 in.

The example above is for a 24" 16:10 screen. A 19" 5:4 screen is 1280x1024 which is standard resolution for that sort of size TFT/LCD. A 16:10 19" widescreen is 1280x800 etc. More info on screen sizes can be found here.

5) Look for 'EnableResize=' and set it to 0.

6) Look for 'SaveAspect=' and set it to 0.

7)Save the file, close it and run IL2.

For a full description of the different display options in IL2 please look here and for some helpful setup guides look here

*edit*

Please note that changing any options within the 'Setup.exe' or changing the in game video settings will overwrite the conf.ini and the resolution changes you've previously made with a resolution IL2 supports.

Just follow the steps again once you've made your desired changes within Il2 or the 'setup.exe' to get the resolution you want

Will this do the trick? I just wanted to run it by you here as I dont "know" anyone over on that site and I dont know if there.....well full of ****. :thumbup:

Looks like a legit way to solve your resolution problem to me. I've done something similar with BF2 in the past to play at 1920x1200 it doesnt support that resolution with in game settings.

Give it a shot you got nothing to lose, and if you mess something up it would only be the game, which you could reinstall.

can you go to the option from the menu screen?

I used to do the same thing for BF2 as Merlin did so you should be OK Joe.

Yeah, I tried it last night and game seems to be running fine.

The issue is now with my mouse. When the main menu screen comes on the mouse cruser will fly off to the right never to be seen again. The game does not crash as the music still plays and I can still quit it.

Gonna buy a new mouse today, as that one was getting batterd anyway. Fingers crossed.

That file is the main configuration for starting the program. Similar file in all other games/programs. If unsure of your result, simply copy the file as 'config.bak' for a backup copy of the original.
Some lines should not be changed.. or the program will not run at all! But other lines can be reconfigured, to improve performance.. such as a 'crosshairs=0' being reset as "1" to show the point of your targeting. If there is no reference to mouse X-axis or Y-axis, then it is default. But if the lines are present, then you might want to experiment with the settings, if no feature for that control is in the user menu settings. Same with Gamma level and screen sizing.. or 'blocks'.

For instance.. in the Quake2 series, there is a [set hand "0"] control line. This sets the shooter as right-handed. If you reset the line to [set hand "1"] then the left hand is favored! The "Fx" keys can also be reconfigured, to allow a quick control swap for the feature. Missing a screen shot key? May be able to add that control line for "F12".
