My question is simple:

Which console has the best gamepad and why?

The PS2 - because the layout is perfect.

Don't get me started on the Gamecube gamepad :P

The Nintendo. It's simple with only a cross-type keypad, 2 buttons, and 2 option select type buttons.

Oh you want current console system gamepads. I dunno :p

Big XBox fan, hate Sony... but even I think the PS2 controller is the best. Fits my hands well and comfortably. All the buttons are easy to access unlike the white and black buttons on my XBox controller. Nintendo's controllers as of late just do not sit well with me and they feel very cheap.

Also - the Super Nintendo Controler.

*THREADJACKING ALERT*

robo> My feelings exactly. As much as I dislike Sony, they did nail the PS controller

Hmm, I guess I'm the only one, but I really like the GC controller. I think everything is layed out well, at least for the games I own.

I've gotten used to them all and they all feel natural to me now. The controller I had the hardest time adapting to was the original XBox monstrosity. Cured that with a couple of S-Controllers though (which I believe are standard now).

I think I'm the only person who liked the original xbox "monstrosities" better. Its mainly because I have big hands, and hate the flat surface on top of the s-type analog sticks.

If the Xbox controller had two more triggers on top it'd be the best (replacing the black and white buttons) IMO.

Wavebird is the best, hands down.

I have all three systems, too, and I have to say while they all have pros and cons, Sony's is definitely the best. It fits perfectly in my hands, and the buttons are all easily accessed.

I think the biggest thing with the XB controller is those damn white and black buttons, they're akward to get to. On the GCN controller, I find the + controller hard to access. Fortunately in the games I'm playing right now, it isn't used too much.

Agreed Supa. Most of the time, the white and black buttons are non-factors so the XBox controller is just fine. However, sports games especially when they tend to use all the buttons I can't help feel limited by the controller layout.

I'm mostly used to the Xbox controller, and I can use either the huge one or the S-type. In the PS2 controller the plastic feels too light and small, since I'm not used to it. The GC controller sucks IMO. The plastic seems cheap, the controller seems hollow, and the C-stick and D-pad both seem useless.

Original XBox controller. I seem to be one of the few people who find it very comfortable, easy to use and solid.

Me too. Maybe it's because I played it so much.

The S controller is better in some aspects but I still have to think about it when I go to hit the black or white button.

This makes me wonder: If you could, what changes would you do to your gamepad (and why)?

For the Xbox controller: Get rid of those two black and white buttons and put two shoulder buttons on it, as well as rounding off the tops of the analog sticks a bit. Put in a d pad that is actualy functional.

I agree with Dan on the xbox controller front.

For gamecube I say make the shoulder buttons require less squeezing to be pushed in. Something like what playstation's controller does, but keep the buttons the same.

For PS2, make it meatier. I don't really need bigger, but make the handles a little bit thicker.
