It's not the 90s anymore, but there's still time for Klax!

You sir would be right.
Sadly, the old 7800 is no longer working for me and I don't have the will to go look or bid on a replacement yet. Of all the Atari consoles I have, the 7800 is the only dead one. It's kind of strange though, the 7800 was supposed to be the tough console and the 5200 the easily broken console, yet the 5200 that I bought from our own Mr. N is still alive and kicking (I seriously can't get enough of Joust on the 5200  )
Oh, and Klax was a kick ass game too.

My Atari 2600 and 7800 are still working. Joust was also available on the 2600 and 7800,

Klax was the last game released by Atari for the 2600, it was a 16k title that played well. :):

Did you ever have the 5200 VCS2600? It's a great little system, that unfortunately wasn't well supported by Atari and rushed to compete with the Colecovision.

No, I have never owned a 5200, although budget permitting I will try to get a set in the future.
Much is often said about the 5200 and why things didn't go well for it. At the time it was in a three way fight with Intellivision and Colecovision. Inspite of Colecovision being a good system, and exclusively featuring Donkey Kong as a game in pack, the Atari 5200 system was outselling it's rivals at the time. But, the video game market was so saturated at the time, and the systems were quite high priced, that no system could have done well in the 1982-84 period.
The 5200 was a powerful machine. It had those fragile non self centering controls, but I also found the Intellivision controllers awkward except for certain games. Play the good arcade ports on the 5200 e.g. Centipede with track ball, and the experience is just like the arcade especially with the 5200's Pokey sound chip.
The 5200 was priced at $265 at launch, which was the going rate for a top system but that was expensive. The creators of the 7800 planned to launch the 7800 for $150 with games at $20-$30. In the end the public needed a break from consoles and that's why the NES did well. It was launched well after the slump.
The 5200 was the last inhouse Atari designed unit, the 7800, Lynx, Jaguar were all designed by outside companies and then adopted by Atari. :):
