If you got the Condition Zero purchased or the HL2 ATi bundle voucher, you'll be able to play the new Counter-Strike: Source beta this Wednesday Aug 18th, preloading starts Monday 16th =]


Does this mean we're approaching HL2 release soon? :shades:

update: Aug 17th preload for HL2 begins. It will include sounds and textures and other stuff that wont change till release. Too bad we wont be able to demo the stuff.

apparently we're also getting original Half Life: Source version with HL2 along with original Team Fortress Classic: Source. This means improved graphics and other stuffs =] Sounds awesome =]

Wish I could play CS:S after preloading it though

Steam should update whenever new things are added to it. If you dont have steam, then yea, you need to download it. Steam has greatly improved since release. Its really good now.

well I stayed on almost all of yesterday just to get it but I got kicked off at 6 p.m.

Next day I wake up go on and w00t! and the only reason I'm really here is because it took my 12 minutes to downlaod the rest of it, well 12 minutes with every second being 7 seconds thanks to steams speed.

yep, cant wait to replay through original HL using the source engine =]

Also I ran that video test thing, they used the game engine demonstration of HL2 at e3 2003. Anyway, at 1024x768 highest possible settings with 4x AA and 8x AF I'm getting average 64fps with my system =P

Also, apparently we can get shot through a wooden crate now lol

you could shoot through wooden crates before, it was just like shooting for a needle in a haystack because body shots did like 2 dmg.

It's crashed a few times but it's a beta so I don't care. I don't get nearly as good fps as you, I'm at around 30 constantly.

Played for awhile, and I like what I see.

The first thing I noticed about the graphics - it runs fast. With all the settings cranked up, and the rez at 1024x768, it never dropped below 60fps. I'll have to fiddle around with the rez and AA some more.

The netcode seems a little weak, and it crashed quite a few times when loading up a game, but its beta, so that's to be expected.

Otherwise, its the same 'ol Counter-Strike we've all played to death.

I don't know what they did to the weapons, but I like it. The recoil is not as great. you only notice recoil when you're spraying bullets. Also, the 12-gauge is surprisingly effective now! At close range, a good shot is a kill. The guaranteed SMG's seem to have almost no recoil - you can spray and spray. Assault rifles are still the best, but spraying with them is pretty ineffective. Also, they take awhile to aim (the reticle takes about 3 seconds to tighten up).

I also like how the deaths are - they look more realistic with the ragdoll physics. The Havoc engine is at work here, but it doesn't really add much to the game. Barrels can be moved into position to help cover you, but thats about it.

No riot shield. Not that anyone used them anyway.

yea but this is just a re-engined CS, I dont think anyone was really expecting something revolutionary. Still looks and plays much better then original =]

the pump shotty is also surprisingly good at long range 2-3 shots for ost stuff, my weapon of choice now.

The ak is a lot less accurate now, fire 3 bullets at long range and you can't hit s***. I have my lowest ping of all time now at a CONSTANT 5 I just changed some of the settings in the console and down it went.

I think you're wrong about ragdoll phychics not adding to the game, before that people used to clip through walls all the time with dead bodies and you would know where they were killed along with the guns which don't stack up on each other now so you know which gun you're gonna pick up.

The reason they only have the one map is because they had to remake them all again, there's been talk of another map coming out soon I believe.

What I meant was that ragdoll physics don't add anything strategic to the game. But the death animation of someone slumping down by a wall is great.

The AR's are a lot more unwieldy now - which is fine, cause it only takes two AK shots to the chest to kill.
