Well, i have started GOW and have about 2-3 hours in it so far.

I figured, I have paid $50 for it, so give it a go.

It is pretty fun, however the game is no where near optimized for the pc as well as Bioshock or Call Of Duty 4....matter of fact, not even CLOSE.

I still get stutters everytime something new loads, they are not major, just annoying. While the graphics are good, they still do not compare to Bioshock or CoD4.

It may be me, but the controls and the gameplay seem alittle "consolely" to me, if that is a word, lol. Maybe it is just the 3rd person view....it just feels clumsy to me.

With that said, I am enjoying it, despite its faults, coz i enjoy good fire fights even if they are scripted. I wish there was a quick save feature, but the check points are not too far apart.

I will say that I would not go out and spend $50 on this game, simply because there are far better new titles out there right now. {Bioshock...CoD4...Crysis...Orange Box....Stalker}I would save this title for latter and maybe pick it up for $20.

At least you got it to install. I can't even get it to install right, so it's still sitting on the shelf. From what I've read, I agree that I wouldn't recommend buying that thing until they work out their many problems. If anybody wants to give it a try, I'd trade it for something I haven't played, like KOTOR maybe. Edward.

Even a very top-end gaming setup may have 'stutters' with extremely intensive graphics. Set your user-preferences for video to different states, to see what works best. Some anti-aliasing or anisotropic filtering changes may be required. Do you have the latest non-Beta video driver set? The latest Direct-X processes?
Then too, is the program looking for Web connections frequently for updates/sequences?
Is there sufficient free memory available for the needs? Background programming that is not needed should be disabled. Yes, you may have 2 gigs of system memory.. but the OS may absorb up to 500 megs of that, and need maybe a gig of space for that specific program. Then your video aperture takes more.. and what is left?
There are very frequent memory "flushes" that happen with little notice of their being. This is needed to ensure continuity of data paging, to avoid conflicts with "dead" issues. Only when you have a Kernel or System memory dump, do you note it with a freeze or "blue-out".

Agreed on the "consoley" part. It's a fun game and I like it, but there's not a whole lot of variety to the firefights for me. I guess I'm spoiled with games made for the PC where you have a lot of freedom to take out the bad guys in different ways.

As grid says, wait for it to hit $20 if you want to get it. There're too many other really good games out there. If money's burning a hole in your pocket, support games like The Witcher or Bioshock or even NWN2. We need more games made like them. I'd have included COD4 or Crysis, but I'm pretty sure we'll get similar games like those in the future. ;)

By the way, Puzzle Quest is a nice, incredibly addictive and cheap title too.
