I wasn't aware of this and hadn't seen much talk of it. Apparently Doom 3 will not run on Win98 and ME systems. At least the official word is it is "unsupported".
Someone has created a patch however which is supposed to allow Win98/ME users to play the game. You can find it here. (http://www.cyberfight.org/?PHPSESSID=85bae80e68e64af908384c893f682682) Thanks to Blues News for the info.
