I'll wait for the reviews before I buy it.

I can't wait to hear the first reports from forum members, here. I'm about half-way through The Suffering, and I've promised myself that I'll finish it before getting Doom III; but it won't take very long. I'll probably end up ordering it sometime next week.

Now how would Best Buy get it before Gamestop/EB etc...,? They are always a day or two behind those places as far as getting it out on the shelves....

I understand his post......so I'll try and help clear things up.

Some stores get their shipments for the week, a little bit early....but since most games/movies come with a strict rule and fines...those stores are not allowed to put the games/movies on the shelf until it's "Official" release date.....so as not to "undermine" the other stores in the area, that are also selling the same product.

Loudlife is stating that his Best Buy store apparently got their shipment a few days early, and may just be holding them in the back, until Aug. 3rd or 4th.....

but he was informed by his friend that works there, that they are not being held to the "release" rule for Doom 3, so apparently if you go in and ask for it, they may give it to you.

I just got back from the Best Buy in my area....everyone that works there are completely clueless as to what Doom 3 is, or when it comes out.

I was told....." Oh, I don't think that Doom 3 will be out for another few months or so.......duh!....."
I went to 3 different people, and I couldn't get any of them to check in the back and see if they have received any, or investigate this story about Activision "lifting" the release rule. I guess I'll have to try a different set of employees maybe tomorrow.

Sheesh! :wtf:

Professor Fzoulcmbyl,

thank you for clearing things up,

it came to my attention that many bb stores in cali did not know about the released date and as soon as they got them they put them on their shelves. ppl started buying them without any problems. BUT there is always lazy gamers and they started calling the stores like you and now all the BB managers got an letter to take out all doom 3 boxes from the shelves until tuesday august 2 At. 11.30 pm

Was I one of those three people, Fzoul? I asked the guy in Electronics and he wasn't sure either and told me I'd have to check with the guy who takes care of the incoming games/CD's/DVD's so I'll ask him next time I see him, or someone else tomorrow who can check it out for me. I won't get it at Best Buy since I get a 10% employee discount at Target, who'll probably sell it for $49.99 (so I'm assuming) not $54.99 like BB will.

As far as "calling" the store on the phone,...I actually went down in person, and just gave them my pre-order slip, and asked for the game.....as it was not sitting on the shelves at this Best Buy.

but like I said....the employees there would not know a PC Game from a box of animal cookies, after trying to get 3 different people to check if the game was in the back,..I just gave up.

Of all the games that I buy there,...I have had to ask them to look in the back for 9 out of 10 of them. Even when it's after the official street date, most of the time they don't put the game out on the shelf, because they just have no clue at all.

Ok, cool. I wasn't worried. Just wondering if I was one of them since I had no idea about if we had the game in yet in the back storeroom since I'm not involved with that at work. :):

Holy! Doom 3 makes baby jesus scared! I was able to run it at 1024x768 with 2x AA and 8x AF with little lag (only when I was going from one big room to the next). I don't know how much I can play tonight I am too chicken :p: I will have to play in the daylight.

Hey Don - what graphic settings did you use in-game? I have a P4 2.4ghz and a 128MB 9800 Pro and only 512MB of DDR RAM.

So I'm a step below your system and am wondering if I should wait to upgrade my CPU and memory before even buying it at this point....would rather not play it the first time at medium/low quality.

You should be able to run it on high and get good fps from what I have heard from the early reports.

I was running mine on high at that res and those settings. Lag was minimal and didn't affect gameplay.

Best Buy should "pricematch" with Circuit City, as long as they are both in your town.
