Seems i don't have too much luck with installing games onto my PC, this is the third in a row that has some kind of problem  . It is installed onto my PC ok, but when playing it only shows in the top left of the screen, the colours are all strange and the mouse does not always respond. My PC is on Windows XP and is using DirectX 9b. Anyone know of a patch or a way to fix this??? many thanks

What are your PC specs?

Do you have a sound card and video card? If yes, what are they?
Overall your system should be able to play it. Minimum specs for the game are:
System: PII 266 or equivalent
RAM:64 MB RAM
CD-ROM: 4X CD-ROM
Video Memory: 8 MB VRAM
Hard Drive Space: 150 MB
Sound Board: Yes
Your ram is pretty lite for XP and if you have only onboard video and sound that will also bottleneck it. Also, the game was released June 10, 2001 and therefore the game "might" not be compatible with XP. What other games did you try that didn't work?

well i tried starfleet command 3 and that needed a patch to work with directx 9, and the other one was armada which didn't work at all. I think my PC is just buggered to tell you the truth lol. But I hace Starfleet command running perfectly now, and several other games. So I can't figure out why its being awkward lol. Do sound/video cards come built-in with the PC, if they don't then i don't have one, if i do then how do i find out what they are?

Sound and video can be configured in two ways:
1. Onboard the motherboard. This means it is an integral part of the motherboard and cannot be removed or replaced... only disabled. This eats up processor power. This is not the best configuration.
2. Separate cards. The video card typically fits into the AGP slot on the motherboard and your monitor plugs into the video card. Older configurations use a video card that fits into a PCI slot. Sound cards run in a PCI slot.
There's a couple of ways to check what you have. The easiest is probably to right click My Computer on the desktop and select properties. Then select the hardware tab. Then select device manager and you will be able click on all the little plus signs to see what kind of hardware you have.

Those older eMachines are notorious for being unstable for gamers. Their fine if all you want to do is send email.
If you're looking to build or buy a new system on a small budget, just post how much you're looking to spend in the Hardware forum. You'll get some good suggestions.
