Hello, this is my first ever post here :).
Anyway, i'm developing a MMOG along with a friend. We've gone for the Panda3D engine as we're both pretty new to programming, Panda3D uses Python which is farley easy to pick up and learn and Panda3D is also easy to learn and use with rapid development. We're currently in the planning stages and are planning to completely re-build the game from ground up programming everything in the Panda3D engine. We have an old build which was developed in the blender3d engine by myself, the blender engine however has too many limitations and also most of the game was not programmed meaning sync issues etc so we've gone for a complete rebuild in the new engine.
The game is entitled "Z Day" and is basically an online zombie outbreak simulation, in where each player's objective is to survive. You will be able to select a role to play before beginning, there are currently only two different roles, these are "Police Officer" and "Civilian". The police officer role will start with a baton melee weapon and a P99 handgun, the civilian will however start with just a baseball bat melee weapon but has the ability to carry a lot of supplies; food, ammo etc. This means that the police officer is the main attacking / defending role where as the civilian is like the supplies carrier. We're trying to push on the co-operation factor and force people to co-operate with each other in means of surviving, so when sending out a team for a supplies run you will want a nice balance of civilians and police going. Supply runs will be important as well as your health will always be going down, slowly meaning you'll have to eat to maintain a healthy state. And of course if someone inside your barricade is infected you’ll need to send out a team to fetch an anti-virus to save the infected person. We're also trying to push on actually wanting to stay indoors more than being outside on the streets with the infected/zombies.
We aim to have different things you can do once indoors and keeping you occupied, obviously you can barricade doors up etc to stop the infected getting in. The infected will run, faster than you can and they will not die with one or two shots, even to the head, this makes one or two infected an extreme risk to a group of armed survivors who are not paying attention etc as once you are infected you will slowly get weaker and move slower and of course, be a prime target for the infected to just maul you to death. You will be able to get an anti-virus which will basically clear the infection from your system. Players will only be able to carry a limited amount of ammo for each weapon and can only carry three weapons at a time, those being a Melee weapon, a handgun and an assault rifle/shotgun you will also only be able to carry limited ammo for each weapon which means ammo is scarce and will stop the more wiser survivors from wasting it.
Anyway the site is located at: www.zdaygame.com come along, join our forums and say hello :).
As i said at the beginning, myself and my friend are just both beginning programming, but this isn't the first game i've made, this is the frist game i have programmed, we hope that with the ease of Python + Panda3D that this will be achievable. We hope to begin development of the new version soon after we've finished designing/planning every last inch of the game. We're also looking for a few team members; programmers (Python) 3D modellers etc.
Feedback etc welcomed :).
