Hi All,

So there I am playing Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. I had come to a bit in the Seoul mission where I had to get by two S.Korean soilders and two N.Korean and a light N/K tank. I had to skirt round the back of the S/K's climb a ladder then slide down a rope on a atrium on the far side of the road. Not too easy as both will shoot you sight, bit strange as their in the middle of a war zone! After several attempts I made it and quicked saved, only to have the quick save crash the game! When I loaded my last quick save it loaded me at the start of the second part of the mission (its a two part mission) but the load was corrupted. So, I decided to restart the mission, but I was put back to the start of the first part of the mission, more or less what I spent the whole day doing!!

I raced through the first part without too much trouble, got to the cut seen and into the second part. Things started to go bad from there. I had to hack in to a radar device that are on the roof top, thing is all these devices are protected by guard(s) (Not much trouble) and flying things with a light and a gun (Their f*****g b******s! Think of the thing that takes the pic of you in HL2, now give it a light and a gun!! Oh, and you cant shoot it down!) You pistol does, however, emit a emp beam that will disrupt them for a short time. Thing is you constantly have to switch between watching thema and watching the guards. After a few tries I got past this bit.

The next secton has 3 guards one of the flying things and lots of lights, the ones that cant be destroyed by shoothing ( ) The first time I tried I got killed and had forgoten to save, so I was back at the start! It only took me one go and I made sure I quick saved this time. After many many tries I got by the 3 guys and the flying death. I had too take out the flying death with the pistol, sneek up to guy one and take him out. The pistol emp will have recharged so I gave the flying thing another blast. I then climbed up on o one of the containers that litterd the yard. I took out a light (with the emp) under the catwalk that ran over the yard this destracted the guard who was up there, and also put the yard into darkness more or less, the radar device was alo up there. Climbing the ladder I took out the guard on the catwalk, next I desabled the radar. I then had to give the flying thing another blast as I wanted to get back down. The last guard had also come to see what was up with the light, I took him out with the shoot gun attachment and bolted for the door! I'd done it!! It had taken ages, many, many tries and pinpoint percussion, but I'd done it!

I was in side now, up ahead was a room with 3 guards talking. I decided to take them down with a frag. I missed judged the angle and the frag bounced back too my feet, killing me.

It was only then it dawned on me that I had not saved since just after the first area!!

I mean, COME ON!!!

.

I know the feeling from my old fragfest days Joe. Sometimes you just get so caught up in the atmosphere and tension of battle you really do suspend disbelief and forget to save your game. That's why quick / auto saves are such a great addition to action titles. Of course, nothing beats a set of full saves at specific key points but hey, if your that involved then the game is probably well worth starting over.

Cheers, Terry

I can sure feel your pain. I've made so many similar mistakes that I don't even want to think about them. All I can say is, "It's a character building experience," even if you do end up bald. Heh, heh. Hang in there. Edward.

I vaguely remember that mission. I think that I popped out all the light "bulbs" that are hanging in the street, like celebration lights or something. That helped me out GREATLY.......at least in the streets it did.

I try to do the SC missions, but if I end up forgetting to save, or if it takes me more than 10 tries, I will use a cheat......

The SC games are cool and I do like them, but they have always been a step up from the normal action games I like. I can think and I can plan, but sometimes there are games that just kick you in the nuts if you dont do something just right.

And with games like that, I will lose interest in it if I have to restart a level/mission/etc... too many times. So I'll use a cheat to get me to the point that I keep losing at so I dont have to trudge thru it again and again and again and again...

Yep, there oughta be a law saying all games have to have a quicksave feature. I hate checkpoint-save games. Edward.

I hate the Seoul levels Steve, those flying drones are bloody annoying! The Japan levels, which you still have to come i found are ones of the most fun. Let me know when you get to the bath house and what choice you made at the end of that level (you'll know what i mean!)

Chaos Theory is the best and most stable of the Splintercell Games. You think that quick save crashing the game is frustrating? You should try Double Agent, on the one level it does it everytime you quick save.

Ive played Chaos Theory several times, it took me ages to get 100% on all of the levels. I love the Splintercell games because you can usually take your time and dont feel rushed. You also get a sense of power knowing you can kill some enemies at any time you wish without them even knowing you're there, almost feels godly!!

Yeah they are are great games. I played most of the first one and will prob finish this one. Whats the second one like?

I think I already did the Japan level.....there is one guard says he wants to be killed by a ninja? The bath bit..... remind me what that is, unless you have to go back to Japan...in which case say nonthing!

Oh maybe that was before Seoul then, well i wont say the ending but the bath house, basically theres rooms filled with a lot of steam, very distinctive. But if youve done the other Japan level youve prob done the bathhouse too. The choice im on about is when you meet Doug Shetland at the end of the bathhouse, caught me off guard the first time i played through.

Funny thing about the ninja quote is the guy refers to the squeaky floor boards as being ninja-proof and talks about a ninja appearing on an oil rig (which was you in the first SplinterCell)!

Number 2, Pandora tomorrow is good and definitely worth having a look at, alot of jungle theme and introduces features not in number 1 (as each sequel has). Youre not missing anything gameplay-wise (Chaos Theory has it all) but its worth playing for the story and is fun to play.

Its a pity Double Agent is so buggy cause i really liked that one too. Breaking out of jail is the best level in that one!

Also on the VERY LAST level theres abit with two soldiers who shoot sticky shocker ammo (after going down an escalator), save your game and let them shoot you the first time, its a nice part of the story people often miss. You dont get 100% because youre detected but its fun anyway to do.

Many games have an auto-save feature, and most do have the 'quick-save' feature.. check which "F" key it is, usually "F5". I do the 'quick-save' often, and when I complete a session to my liking, I will "escape" and save the game to the menu listing.
Yeah, I know the feeling.. you restarted a few times.. got cocky, and then didn't save for a while. Ka-Zamm!! Phooey!! Time to 'walk the dog'.

In SplinterCell its F5 Quick Save and F9 or F10 Quick Load. Ive forgotten to save occasionally, either died or pressed Quick Load only to go back to a point way before where i wanted to be! It doesnt happen often as im a compulsive saver!

Shoot a bad guy --Quick Save-- climb a drain pipe and prepare to jump --Quick Save-- fall and die --Quick Load-- hehe

Im sure Mr Cool knows these keys anyway as its almost compulsory in SplinterCell, bad guys can be totally unpredictable and detect you for apparently no reason sometimes!

At least the game has the option to save. I hate the games with long checkpoints where you can die right before the next one *damn you Rainbow Six Vegas*.
