I have been looking forward to that movie since I saw the first preview a few months ago. I never heard of the book beforehand, but it apparently had a good following.

Dude, there's already been a couple of movies based on that book.

Haven't you seen The Omega Man?

I'm looking forward to this movie. Looks like it's quite well done.

Although I've got my money down for at least 2 "Aw Hell NO" moments.

I haven't seen it either, nor have I read the book. I plan to pick up the book at my earliest convenience, sounds awesome.

Richard Matheson is an intersting writer of sci-fi, horror and fantasy that scripted numerous films and TV shows based on his own original stories. Steven Spielberg's first feature-length TV film Duel starring Dennis Weaver was written by him as well as some of the more famous episodes of Rod Serling's original Twilight Zone including Nightmare at 20,000 Feet with a then young William Shatner. Oddly, it was just aired today as part of the Sci-Fi Channel's Twilight Zone marathon.

The Omega Man and The Last Man on Earth were both films based on his novel titled I Am Legend and this new version starring Wil Smith looks good from the little I've seen so far. More recently his stories were adapted for the big screen as What Dreams May Come with Robin Williams and Stir of Echoes with Kevin Bacon, both of which I liked. I also still get a kick out of the 1957 classic B&W flick The Incredible Shrinking Man (based on another of his books) when they run it late at night.

Have not read I Am Legend. However have seen both movies based on it and particularly enjoyed Charlton Heston's classic hard-ass character in The Omega Man. The earlier screen adaption, The Last Man on Earth starred the always interesting Vincent Price. However it was just too corny even for this old B-movie fan.

Cheers, Terry

I love The Omega Man, that was a great movie.

I guess i just always sort of assumed that it was one of those movies that virtually everybody has seen.

It's just filled with so many iconic things that are constantly referenced by other fiction.

But before the Omega man there was "The last man on earth" (http://www.feoamante.com/Movies/JKL/lastman_onearth.html)
