Insurgency for HL2 release today

Have to admit I hadn't heard of this total conversion mod till I ran across it this morning. There's a write up about it here (http://www.steamfriends.com/mods/p2_articleid/526) as well as a video. Looks pretty good.

For those that don't know, Insurgency (INS) is a total conversion mod for Half-Life 2, that will take you across the modern battlefield, engaging in intense firefights and battles as a member of either a highly organized and equipped conventional force (US Marines), or as an unconventional fighter that uses a combination of firepower and bravery to take on their sometimes overwhelming opponent (Insurgents). http://www.insmod.net/.

Hmm, the website appears to be less than functional however I found the trailer very interesting esp. the realism factor. Once it actually up I'm grabbing it.

I've been following it a while.

It seems to play out more like say, Red Orchestra/America's army then counter strike and the like.

One of the main developers was actually an ex-Red orchestra developer who split off from them before they started Tripwire (after winning the unreal mod contest).

There's no crosshairs in game, you use iron sights. It even lets you rest your gun on an object to get a stead aim like in Red Orchestra.

Another nice thing is that your character is customizable, not just "pick a class = a clone of everyone else of that class." You can select his face, various items (IE type of hats, eyeware, etc) and other things.

Website seems to be working fine now, but the file still hasn't been released... C'mon release dates!

Edit: Checked their forums, 21 GMT/5pm EST release date apparently.

if anything, this game would probably offer the one thing that HL2 doesnt when using a weapon: aiming down the sight. Which I am always dying to do during HL2

Yep... got a crappy file. Must have dl'd it before FP realized someone had uploaded a fake file. Back to waiting.

They have a thread created this morning with 1600 posts and 92000 views. People have been waiting about 3 years for this mod!

No, it's mp only. Rreally brings a new level to realism that I've NEVER seen before.This one is not for you quakies. My entire team was just mowed down wave after wave because we had no idea where they were, it was awesome!
