View Full Version : Why No "Hunt For Bin Laden" Game?

I want to play a Soldier Of Fortune type of game where you are a special forces mercenary type hired to hunt down Bin Laden and his gang in the caves of Afghanistan/Pakistan by networking with locals and popping in on terrorist enclaves and eventually having a showdown with Binny and his gang and then being heralded by the world.
Going undercover by disguise, persuasion and cohersion of locals etc..., all are part of it as well as helicopter missions, spying and some stealth etc..,
You could chase him down via clues all over the world if necessary, foil terrorist plots in the US, and infiltrate terrorist training camps and blow 'em all away creatively.
Are developers afraid of the subject matter? Is Bin Laden not everyone's worst enemy? They can do it without offending the Muslim folk.
I want to hunt him down virtually and blow his brains out!!!
Why doesn't someone make this game? They are already imitating the Iraq war and Afghanistan operations in the one military game (forget it's name off-hand).
I would think such a game would be a big hit.
Here's to wishing for it....

Why dont you go over there and do it for real?! Seriously though dont you get the chance to hunt him in a game called Americas most wanted or something?

Well I'm not a trained special ops soldier for one thing, I just like the James Bond secret spy espionage stuff as far as games go.
Are developers worried about offending Islamic extremists or something for God's sakes?
Yeah there's an online game (not a fan of military online games or even tactical/realistic military games in general, including Clancy games) but it doesn't include a solo oriented, SP action game - just mirrors battles in Iraq and Afghanistan that are squad oriented with new maps you can download/purchase.
I mentioned that above any ways, just forgot the name of it (Kuma war maybe?)
I am not interested in that game at all.
I want a Soldier Of Fortune III that has elements of Hitman in it and Bond without the cheeky humor...a mix of realism and action - disguises - stealth and blowing the crap out of Islamic terrorists by suprise - it would make for a very rewarding game to a lot of us Americans I think....if we can't have the real thing.

That's a good question actually. My first thought was that it was still too soon after these events, but then I started thinking about the first gulf war. We still haven't really seen any games or movies about that one either, with maybe one or two exceptions, and that one has been past more than ten years. Strange.

There is a game coming out like this... Sadly. Looks a bit crap.
Anyway Osama bin Laden is on a dyalisis machine. Anyone could kill him.

Anyway Osama bin Laden is on a dyalisis machine. Anyone could kill him.
But who can find him? That's the point of the game idea - I wouldn't expect a big boss battle with him when you get to him. :) More of a "Hitman" type of scenario where you infiltrate his cave or whatever and discreetly kill him and his right hand men in disguise or by stealth....and then have to get out of there alive.
You'd also have to beat randomn kidnap encounters and ambushes while you were in Pakistan or wherever constantly as there's no way anyone could fit in 24/7 over there on a special ops assignment any ways...someone will rat you out.
Game developers have become soooo lame lately and are so uncreative - everything's a sequel or a rehash "proven formula" game without any innovation or genuinely fun and interesting spins...just tired of it. Obviously publishers have driven this mentality into the ground to achieve safe profit goals etc..,
I just have no interest in another WWII game or tactical shooter that tries to be realistic, I am so tired of those played themes and those games have literally saturated the PC games market (and consoles now). Enough already.

Because that's the entire problem - it's too open at the moment.
The situation right now is more role-playing, than action - intel gathering, that sort of thing. It's too difficult for a game to properly reflect that.
And if a game tried - it'd be a problem because of the number of game types needed.
if it was a pure action game a la SoF, it'd be rather boring. It's impossible to be realistic because the area is too 'hot' for developers to pop in and take photos to make proper levels. Also - even by just 'guesstimating' the levels - there's not nearly enough in the area to make for an interesting level. People are tired of playing out the 'rocky terrain' levels, so it would be uninteresting.
The only other alternative is by doing a Rainbow 6 style game where each mission is a self contained takedown of a terrorist cell around the world. This however has all the markings of a rehash of other games.
Thus you'd just be left with the premise of hunting Osama. And that really doesn't have enough to go on.
And have you played Full Spectrum Warrior yet?

Osama is in Saudi Arabia anyway. :p According to Michael Moore anyway...
I still find it hard to believe the world's best army can't find a guy who has to be hooked up to a huge immobile machine most the time.
The game I mentioned is a PS2 port...
