Hi There! As a new member, I am asking for any help - this situation is driving me mad!!!
I have a new system Windows XP (with all the service packs updated), Dual Core 1.8Gz, 1 Gig Ram, DVD Drive, Nvidia Geforce 8600 Video Card.

This system plays every game perfectly - from Warcraft 2 to Battle for Middle Earth 2, etc.

HOWEVER....

I purchased C&C - The First Decade and here is where the problem starts. I thought it might have been an error on the DVD, but the individual titles I have do reflect the same problem.

Red Alert 2, for instance, installs on my system with Audio & Visual. When I PLAY the game, the opening screen 'hangs' and then I see an error 'CANNOT CREATE DIRECT 3D Device.'

This is the same for the original C&C, Red Alert, Yuri's Revenge. Generals plays fine and Tiberium Sun plays fine but the video clips are jittery as hell.

I have installed the latest version of DirectX, I have also downloaded the latest (May 17) release for the video card and still these problems persist.

DXDiag shows there are no problems with everything enabled.

No-one has been able to offer any assistance - can anyone help????

Welcome to the Forum!
Have you checked the nVidia site to see if there are newer drivers?
A review of the video card model here (http://www.guru3d.com/newsitem.php?id=4834). The chipset drivers that came with the mobo should be the proper ones to enable full use of the features. There may be better drivers at the Web site of your mobo. Also check with MS at their update site, in the "other" category.
There is an excellent diagnostics program from www.lavalys.com/ called Everest Ultimate Diagnostics. Not expensive to own, and it can show details of all system features/setup. Can provide links to drivers, and has a decent basic testing feature.
