I just got my copy today, and the little blurb on the last page reads...
"This year marks the 30th Annv. of Dungeons and Dragons. To Celebrate, we've scored exclusive looks at NWN 2, D&D Online, the D&D RTS, and Baldur's Gate 3 ".
This would be the first Confirmed preview of BG3, other than a note from a Bioware employee on a message board somewhere....I sure hope it's not some lame "play on words", or just a re-hash of message board note....

That's very interesting news. Another BG type game would be more than welcome. That's what Dragon Age is supposed to be though...

Personally, I'd like to see a D&D game set in the Dragonlance world. But I'd sure love a good new BG3 game too.
I've been checking out the news with D&D Online, off and on, for a while now. I'm hope it turns out good.

Apparently nothing can ever, ever happen in a place like a "city" like Baldur's Gate right? I mean, nothing ever could ever possibly happen ever again in a location such as a city...
:p:
Am I on the right track Fzoul?

Right. And Baldur's Gate became little more than a metaphor in the Shadows of Amn sequel. After all, the entire game took place far South of Baldur's Gate.

Sure, whatever you say. I never played the game beyond the initial frustration of the first 30 minutes (remember I suck at those games). I'm not sure really what you are saying to me, if you are agreeing or not.
I was more or less just paraphrasing Fzoul. Everytime someone says something about Baldur's Gat being ended and they couldn't possibly produce another one, Fzoul always had a post saying that Baldur's Gate is a location, not a story.
Then another one would post and Fzoul would repeat his stance. Wash, rinse and repeat.
I think the final one where he had his hang banging against the wall was funny, so I thought I would paraphrase his position for him.
I really don't know anything about the games, nor do I truly care. But I understand how Fzoul might feel when he repeatedly makes the same point, only to have no one listen.

Supposedly. But the great god of money has asked for another contribution, so it's time for a new BG story!
You know what I'd like to see, is the player taking the role of someone who is having their adventure and living his/her life at the same time as the Children of Bhaal story arc. Think of all the opportunity for little references, etc! It would be great!
Of course, I'd also be just as happy with an entirely new story.

I would like to see them explore some different worlds as well. I never cared for the Dragonlance world but it would be something different. The Dark Sun setting is interesting. If someone were to make a good D & D game in that setting, it might erase the memory of the lamentably buggy effort from SSI many years ago.

Well I've let two evenings pass without checking my copy of PC Gamer for that little blurb.
I do know the Obsidian Entertainment forums are abuzz talking about BG3. Obsidian has acknowledged that there is an additional project they are working on besides KOTOR2, but won't say anything else of course. Heck they didn't even admit working on KOTOR2 until a few days after the official announcement.
If there is a BG3 we can only hope Obsidian is the developer since that is where many of the orginal BG crew are now.

I was agreeing with you, Bruenor. Through the entire BG series (2 stand-alones & 2 expansions) only about 8% was played in the city of Baldur's Gate. The rest was all up and down the Sword Coast.
In fact the Icewind Dale game series also took place just north of the Sword Coast. And the Neverwinter Nights series took place just north of Baldur's Gate.
Now that I think about it, a new game set away from the Sword Coast region of Forgotten Realms would be better for me. I'd still like to play a Greyhawk game, as long as it's not put into the hands of a Troika/Atari team. I like the idea of BioWare and Obsidian making good D&D CRPGs.

Posted at Shacknews, this bit (http://www.homelanfed.com/index.php?id=24824) from Homelandfed.
When contacted by HomeLAN to comment on this news bit an rep from Atari (the current holder of the console-PC D&D game licence) said, "There may be some truth to that statement..."

Sheesh!
Do you know how many P&P Modules ( Stories) they have created for the City of Waterdeep?
Untold Millions upon Millions.........
and yes.....I do exaggerate so..........

bah, I have a feeling this thing is gonna be a craptacular cash-in project with bugs in it. Anyone wants to bet money on this? $1,000 says it will flop =]

I kind of agree, if it does see the light of day that is. I sure hope I'm wrong though.
I like the Forgotten Realms setting and I wouldn't mind if it still took place there. There are many areas that were never even hinted at in previous games. What I'd like best is another game in the Planescape setting, however.

You know what's going to happen, though?
They'll make it all set in the Underdark and focussing on the drow. ;)
I'd love to see one set in another of their universes. Baldur's Gate 3: Planescape would be awesome. I can wish, can't I?

oh, that would be very cool, Kal. I love the Drow. And imagine if Drizzt was available as a party member? And maybe some of his cronies? That would ROCK.

Umm, Chylde, I think Kal was being a little sarcastic (hence the little wink). That game was already made. It's called Neverwinter Nights, Hordes of the Underdark. You should pick it up, it's a great game.

yeah but, is Drizzt in it?
I didn't really care for NwN, I didn't complete the main campaign, let alone any of the expansions.

EDIT: Bruenor posted at the exact same time. I'm getting suspicious
Drizzt isn't in it, but to me that's a good thing :D:
Unlike the original campaign, HotU has a good story, great characters, fun and challenging fights and nice epic music, but it still has the same somewhat flawed gameplay the original NWN campaign has. If you didn't like it, I don't think you'll like HotU much either. I didn't mind it that much though, so I definitely had a good time with the expansions.
Bruenor

Ah, but Drizz't was already in BG:DA.
NWN was maybe a little weak, but HOTU was superior to the main quest and was by far the best part of NWN. If you can find it cheap I would highly recommend giving it a go. After all, you were already excited by Kal's "idea", well HOTU is the idea materialized.
