Ok, yeah, some of you are probably thinking I'm retarded or something, whatever. :p: Anyway, I REALLY need some help, someone please! :(: I just recently bought "Thief Gold" and I went to install it and I keeping getting the following message; "Windows NT Install detected" "This product cannot be installed on Windows NT due to a Microsoft DirectX (tm) limitation".

I have a emachine (parents') with Windows XP. It just recently got updated as well... Someone please tell me what I can/should do to fix this problem so I can play my game! I would really appreciate it! *begs*

Hi Tigress, welcome to the board. XP is essentially NT in a fancy package - to put it simply.

Here's your answer:

How do I install Thief on Windows 2000 or Windows XP?

"Go to Start, then Run, then type d:\setup.exe -lgntforce, where d:\ is your CDrom/DVDrom drive. (note: that's -lgntforce, lowercase "L". If you're unsure, copy and paste it from here.) This problem arises because Win2K and WinXP are based on the NT kernel, which had DirectX support which was flaky at best. Thief needs DirectX to run, so, when the installer sees the NT kernel, it assumes that the game isn't going to be able to run and quits the installation. The -lgntforce switch tells the installer to ignore the NT kernel and install anyway."

I know that Sup's answer in this thread has also helped me with that very same problem. I think that we should move this thread into the archives some time.

Hi,
I'm having the same problem installing Thief Gold on my XP. I also get the message 'that this product cannot be installed....'. I have tried the d\setup.exe -lgntforce but this does not work either as I get the same message. It use to play on this machine but no longer. Any suggestions?
