Just read about it. Your post beat me. :p:

Looks very promising, and being done by a company noted for its quality!

w00t!!!!

I wonder if this means it'll be in 3d, like Morrowind? I think I could live with that, if the style and execution are genuine Fallout. I think it'd actually be kind of neat. If they decide to stick with the old overhead view and interfaces, that's just fine, too. I'm just happy to know a pretty decent company managed to snag the rights to keep this franchise going.

God help them... If they only knew the kind of lunatics that will be assaulting them, they would burn the contract and bury the game. Don't believe me, check out www.rpgcodex.com.

Well, I've heard that it's so far PC-only. I'm thinking that it will be a 3D game engine, since it'll be developed alongside the next Elder Scrolls game. That's where Bethesda's expertise is, so it makes sense that they'll do it that way.

Wow, incredibly good/interesting news. But wasn't the game partially developed already?

This comment seems to elude to the fact it'll be a new/3D engine possibly:

“We are overjoyed,” said Howard. “Fallout is one of my favorite games, and we plan to develop a visually stunning and original game for Fallout 3 with all the hallmarks of a great RPG: player choice, engaging story, and non-linearity.”

I am fine with a 3D/1st-3rd person game - and prefer it - much, much more immersive that way as well as giving developers many more options to work with.

The phenomenal success of Morrowind and KOTOR should atest to that. But you have to wonder if they're going to simply "finish" what was started, or create an entirely new game from scratch - which that comment seems to elude to.

Bethesda just got a lot richer either way.

Wow, what a bunch of sorry idiots. It's like they worship Fallout or something.

Anyways, I was surprised at this news. I'm curious as to how it will turn out but to be honest, I'd prefer another Elder Scrolls game.

EDIT: Gah, they ARE making another TES game. I also thought the dialogue in MW was lame. If they had put in PS:T or Bioware quality dialogue it would have rocked even more :):

If anyone is to make Fallout 3, it should be the makers of one of the best RPG's out today.

EDIT: Though they make some good points about Dialogue trees etc. Dialogue in Morrowind was lame.

Man, those people over at RPG codex are acting like a bunch of whiny babies. A bunch of them even commented that Bethesda acquired the Fallout rights for only one reason: to piss them off. Yeah, sure guys. They have a vendetta against a bunch of whiny fanboys and they decided to spend a crapload of money acquiring the rights to one of your favorite games, because even though they don't know you, they want to make your life hell.

A few more details on the situation released today at Gamespy. (http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/fallout-3/529744p1.html?fromint=1) The brief interview actually prompts more questions than answers. It sounds like they are scrapping the pre-existing work on the project and starting from scratch.
