View Full Version : STALKER editing, and how the heck do I do it?

I know about the user.ltx file (or whatever it's called) and typing HELP in the console brings down all the console commands, but I've heard of editing a file to make these VERY WEAK guns a bit better. It takes damn near a full magazine at point blank range to take someone down, body armor or not.
I'd like to bump up the guns.......
But more importantly, I LOVE TO GET RID OF THIS GOD AWEFUL HEADBOB!! This "feature" in FPS games makes me sick. I cant play this game for more than 1 hour before I get a migrain and want to barf :doa:
Anyone know about how to do some editing????
I'm on the official GSC forums, and so far I've found nothing and no one has answered me there

The guns aren't weak, trust me. (Except the pistols, which are realistically inaccurate in this game, alright? You cannot pull of sniper shots with a pistol. You're best off sitting close to the ground and unloading ammo like crazy if you want ranged pistol combat.)
Here's a few tips.
First off: Don't use zoom unless the enemy is so far away that you can't actually see them. (Even then, it's really only useful on scoped weapons.)
^ What i'm saying is that zoom doesn't improve your aim, the guns usually just end up obscuring your view.
Secondly, crouch! CROUCH! Then crouch again. (Crouch & walk together make you go prone.)
^ That does improve your aim.
If you've moving while firing, at least crouch or walk.
Next up? Short controlled bursts!
You'll be dropping baddies like crazy.

Something else that is cool: Notice how the ballistics model in this game accounts for bullet ricochet?

Your right on what your saying, but at point blank range with the AK47 and the M16 looking gun, I'm dumping AT LEAST half a mag on normal armor stalkers, full mags on military, full mags on Snorks, full mags on zombie's.......... I understand the armor they where helps them out, and head shots still kill em with 1-2 bullets, but at point blank range.........it's taking a full mag.........
that's horsesh** to me....... walking up to em, few feet away, I like how it's somewhat realistic.......but dude, I'm at point fricken blank range and it's taking waaaaayyyyy to much ammo to kill em............

Between medium to close ranges the pistols (esp the prototype that holds 15) are killer. I am finding it better than teh shotgun.

Aim for the head or neck.. or where armor is the non-factor! Even a side-shot will do an instant kill. Aim for vital areas. Arms and legs have the least kill-factor.
When you are standing erect, the recoil of the weapon will put your target off by a good margin. When you are crouching, you can provide more support for the holding arm.. when prone, you get the best accuracy.. but least height of shot.
Of course it isn't nice to shoot a foe in the buttocks (aim for the spine), but that will usually disable them so the second shot is the finish!
A pistol has the least barrel length but is deadly close-in.. while rifles have the best accuracy for longer distances. The higher the power of the cartridge (shot), the more recoil will be experienced. Some sniper weapons have a gas recoil setup to reduce that factor and ensure greatest accuracy over long distances.
Go to a target range, and experience the kick of some guns.. the game's playability applies a lot of reality concerning recoil!

Give it some time man and there'll be a save game editor.
I really want that amazing gun that I found in like last 15 minutes of the game in the NPP>

Guys, I understand that the game is modeling the guns to real life results, and I'm pretty good at using em.....except the scope on the ak47.......... :p:
I'm talking about being so damn close that you can only see the enemies head and upper torso.........I'm standing what would be less than 4ft from the person, and it takes damn near a whole mag to take em down.
I dont mind searching dead bodies for ammo and stuff, I actually like that part of the game, but I swear to god, it is taking more ammo than it should. The m16 looking gun (fav gun so far) has 30 rounds per load. I'll hit the enemy with every single bullet cause I'm at point blank range, and they dont fall until I've got 6-7 rounds left.
I'll go prone so that I'm looking at em in the nuts, shooting thier torso, and it still takes almost the whole damn mag

Jesus, man, i don't know what you're doing.
Are you just going full auto instead of controlled bursts? Could be your accuracy is going to ****. (despite the range, yes.)
What kind of stalkers are you up against? Are you fighting guys with the power armor and ****? That's an entirely different situation, that's full body armor and everything.

I'm doing both, short burst's and full out.
I learned pretty quick that the guns will sway when you fire, and the crouch thing helps the accuracy......... I can see the reticle shorten, subtle, but it shortens.
This is happening to damn near anything I'm shooting at. The ONLY guys who fall like they should are the normal stalkers, guys who have the same armor as you when you first start the game.............hooded sweatshirt looking armor.
In the GSC forums, there are other folks who are having this very same issue. I didn't install it yet but the patch is supposed to do some rebalancing for some guns. I may just be using the few guns that this is effecting. I've been sticking with the first AK74 that I found with a scope and the gun that looks like an M16. I've had to grab another M16 one cause the first one started to degrade. The scoped AK is still in great shape, only snipe with it.
I've got a silenced pistol that is great for close up head shots, but only on the non -power armor type guys.
I cant say anything about any other guns cause I'm basically using the scoped AK47 for distance shots and the M16 looking one as my main gun. So far, these have the better qualities in damage, handling, range, ect....... So that's why I'm sticking with em, but ingame results, they dont act like they should..........

Anyone pick up the bazooka?
I did, but haven't used it yet. I just finished the lab quest, which is where I found it.

Its pretty useless. There are hardly any enemies in this game that are dumb enough to stand in one place. They are also hardly in tight close formations. So, if you wanna take down a single target at range, there are more efficient and silent ways to do it. (Dragunov)

the first bazooka on the roof I found I used to kill two mercs that were below me.
Find better guns is the solution. The exo-suit guys are the hardest to kill, if you have the best guns you can kill them easier. I have the sts? "thunder" gun now that shoots somesort of sniper ammo, it lays waste to most enemies really quick although the magazine is only 20 bullets. Using better ammo really makes a difference as well.
Just fire in bursts and aim for the upper torso. You dont need to take down an enemy with one volley, be patient and stay in cover. This game is an rpg so there is a satisfying developent of weapons. In the beginning, it takes clips of 9mm ammo to take a bandit down. Now I can walk around and 1 burst kill everyone in cordon. Even aksu shots hardly dent my armor. Grenades are also your friend. Even exo-suit guys will go down from nades.

I doubt that the weapons have an auto-ranging feature. Try some target practice when you have the chance.. say a golf-ball sized object at an approximate distance of 100 yards. Dead-on with the crosshairs, then check to see where the shot landed. The crosshair setting you have may be off! Remember to compensate by using elevation and/or wind speed. That affects real-life shooting. If you have played RTCW, you have many weapons.. including the AK-47, a Mauser plus a Sten and others. The crosshairs are quite accurate in that game, but the desired 'kill zone' is what counts. Many hits will be needed to non-vital areas.

I've gotten some better weapons and now it seems to be playing better. It's not taking a whole mag to down an enemy...........

Heh, i got Strelok's modded "Fast-shooting" AK, and its a blast to use with a scope. I also carry around a modified sniper rifle :)

HEADSHOTS HEADSHOTS HEADSHOTS! Find a G36 and take ur time aiming at their heads. ALWAYS AIM FOR THE HEAD. Cause in later parts of the game, unless ur packing hundreds of BP ammo for ALL your guns, body shots are just useless.

Here's what happens when you enter Freedom's base, shoot their leader and then camp the staircase :)

Entire Freedom faction dead on the stairs. The trick? Camp on the top of the stairs and look down. Don't use flashlight or they'll know where you're standing. Pull headshots and throw grenades if you have them :) Done.
