Noticed the latest screens posted.

Like the look of this one the best. The city looks so huge and detailed compared to pervious total wars. Going to be awesome going up against the first city fight. Hope it turns out great, and gets released this year. :D:

Those screens look great! I'll probably need some upgrades to run it at even moderate framerates though. :):

Anyone watch the BBC 2 show called Time Commanders? They do historical battles featuring the Rome game engine =]

Yep, pretty cool show, that's the main reason I'm so interested in RTW. :):

What is the game like? Is it a war simulator where you set up plans and then hit the Go Button or what?

Its similar to Shogun and Medieval Total War games =]

It's like a RTS with that part, and the country management is TBS. You set up a formation, but you have full control over the battle.

And Circle, you won't need to upgrade TOO much ;). Medieval ran well on an integrated 32 mb card, they seem to make good engines there.

Well, Medieval was almost identical to Shogun in terms of graphics etc. It had a lot more options in terms of gameplay, but the engine didn't make the game look that different. Rome will have a completely new 3d engine, all the units are 3d :): I reckon LOTS of upgrading going with this one. Maybe they'll make it look like the original on low settings. :P

To summrise the game system, it's divided into two sections. One is a board game, moving pieces, managing areas, trading, all Turn based. The player gets the first turn which makes it harder for you, I would prefer if it was possible to select to randomise the order. Then there's the better part, fighting real time with control over a certain number of groups of soldiers. Fighting is also split into two sections, setting up units on the battlefield, and fighting.

It will be the best Strategy game ever created. :)

This game looks superb. Likely strategy GOTY for most people.

This game will be the end of me. I can barely stop playing medieval total war on the scarce time I have, even on the time I don't have, and now they will release this?
Expect to not hear from me for longer periods of time when this game is released.

This is going to be very impressive (although Cossacks 2 has stolen most of the best ideas too, so looks like we will have two nice strategy games, one set in Classical times and one in Napoleonic!). A dev said a while back that it ran as well as MTW did... Presumeably before the engine started to look so nice.

I havent kept up much on Cossacks 2 coz I thought it was still early in development. Gonna have to check out the progress soon.
