When it was decided all of the IGN platform channels of "last generation" would need to put together a Top 25 [Insert Your Platform Here] Games of All Time, we PC guys let out a shudder of dread. While the consoles of last generation have five years of games to pick from for "All Time", we have a considerably larger pool of titles. If we had been smart from the beginning and only used games from the last generation of PC games (Windows XP or DirectX9 probably), things would have been easier. Unfortunately for us, the whole "Of All Time" thing basically sent us back to the beginning of PC games.

Surprised to see Fallout so high on the list, but very grateful of it.

Also great to see Grim Fandango on there too, that was such a fantastic game.

Some choices of sequels over originals are silly (UT2K4? Blah) (Oblivion over Morrowind? Blah)

Well, they got number one right anyway. There's 6 or 7 more that belong on there. What a lame list. No Wing Commander? No Doom or Wolfenstein?

Yep. Couldn't believe Morrowind wasn't on the list but Oblivion was. Overall, pretty good list though.

Starcraft ought to be #1

I can agree with UT2k4. I mean, I was never that interested in UT (it was a bit "same same on steroids"), but UT2k4 really expanded it and gave it new life. it think UT2k4 is a lot more influential than the original.

Oblivion over Morrowind, I can see why, but don't necessarily agree. The sequel vs originals is a bad argument against it, as you'd be going back many years for the true original. Morrowind was a far deeper game to me, oh well.

I'm impressed that X-Com was no. 1, I'm a little surprised at what was missing, like Diablo, and some early games, but overall I think I agree.

My top 10 would be (in no real order):
Half Life
Heroes of Might & Magic 3
Mechwarrior 2
System Shock 2
Dawn of War
Deus Ex
Grim Fandango
Planescape Torment
Freespace 2
Dungeon Keeper

Civilization 4 at the number 2 spot! Common, that should have been alpha centauri or civilization 2. I would consider those games way more influential. And where is HL1, doom and duke nukem 3d. What about wing commander and freespace 2. Deus ex and theif 2 are no where to be found. Its just way to hard to narrow down a list of all the amazing PC games that have been released. Mechwarrior 2 for the win!

Makes one wonder who decides what games get a good rating.. and by what standards.
Mainly, the amount of product sold is a deciding factor.. but the actual user feedback on use/likes/dislikes has little effect. Some programming has a lot of action, but little in the way of story line or truth. Others are pure fancy or fallacy.. and may imply a distant future life.
Surprising that Quake 4 or Doom 3 and others were not included! Morrowind and Delta Force should have been.. as well as many others.

Great to see IL2 in there. Being a huge IL2 fan and a big prop head in general, I think flight sims are very often over looked in this type of list.

Role on Storm of War: Battle of Britian. :shades:
