Every time I run C&C Generals it exits back to the desktop after showing the splash screen for a few seconds. The generals.exe and game.dat processes remain running and do nothing other than take up 50MB of my memory :(
I've been having the same problem with all of the patches.
My system stats:
Game/Software: Command and Conquer: Generals Version 1.10
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP1
DirectX Versions: 7.0, 8.0, 9.0
RAM: 512MB
Processor: 908MHz AMD Athlon
Motherboard: Mainboard GA7XDR+
Graphics: ATI Radeon 7500 (AGPx4)
Sound: Creative SoundBlaster PCI 128
CD Devices: CD-ROM 54X, DVD-ROM 48X, CD-RW 40x16x10x (Read, Write, Re-Write)
Hard Drives: C:\ - 80GB, D:\ - 30GB, E:\ - 30GB
Internet - 512KBps Broadband via 50MBps Wireless NAT Router
The same disc works on my brother's PC, which is a 2.8GHz AMD Athlon with 256MB RAM and an ATI Radeon 9000.
Somebody said it could be my graphics card, but I doubt that such a thing would affect the actual loading of the game.
Any help would be useful, thanks in advance!
