View Full Version : How Embarassing

Well, I went into EB yesterday with my 2 year old daughter, which was a big mistake. The store was busy (of course) with a whole bunch of guys. Anyway, my daughter ran to the GBA games (which she plays on my Gamecube through the Gameboy player) and picked up Dora the Explorer and screamed with excited glee... DORA! DORA! DORA! PLEASE Daddy!

Well, now that the entire store's attention was directed at me, I went to pay for the game. Of course, there's something to be said about walking through your favorite gaming store full of regulars that you know and discuss games with walking with this:

http://www.metacritic.com/media/games/platforms/gba/doratheexplorerthesearchforpirate/picture.jpg

That's OK though, it was for my daughter and she really loves the GBA and the games (not that she really knows what she's doing, but who cares, she has fun). So I took the stares like a real man and paid for the game with a proud smile.

OK...... Maybe the peer pressure might have got to me a little bit.....

I also walked out with Beyond Divinity, Warlords Battlecry III, Ground Control II, Shadow Hearts (PS2), Arx Fatalis (XB), and Super Mario Bros. Classic NES series (GBA).

So with all these new games guess what I did on Canada's birthday? I sat and played Dora the Explorer with my daughter and had a blast. The other games can wait until this weekend.

Great story

I get a kick out of playing games with my 5 year old nephew. I'm the only one in the family that can keep up with him. :p:

I would think most gamers would think you're starting her off early into gaming and that's a good thing.
It might have been more embarrassing if you were alone and had picked up the game....

....might have had "some 'splainin' to do Lucy".

Just promise to keep her away from those Olsen dressup and dating games and you're still in good standing within the daddy gamer circles.

Also keep her away from Britney's Dance Beat game, or whatever it's called.

Bruenor, whenever you have the chance, could you please share your opinion of Beyond Divinity? I loved DD but I'd like more feedback before buying the sequel.

I won't do that. I simply wanted to comment that it was a nice story, but I don't buy it. Admit it, Bruenor. You're a closet Dora fan, and your daughter serves as a cover for your addiction, right?

 you know I'm kidding, man. That's great, though. When I have kids, I'm going to be sure to start their training at a young age, too. :):

Actually my friend, you are not too far away from the truth. Of all the toddler/pre-school shows that I watch, Dora the Explorer is among my favourites. Heh, I've even learned to count to ten in Spanish

Heck, if we ever get together for a few bubbly pops you may notice that when I'm a little tipsy that I start singing the "Dora the Explorer" theme song.

:scared: You trying to ensure we never get together for the sodas?

 No worries, man. I know lots of parents who watch TV with their young children, so I'm used to it.

My daughter is playing City of Heroes. She says it's her favorite game ever. I am trying to get her interested in Neverwinter Nights.

Speaking of watching tv with your kids, I have been watching Barney with my 13 month old daughter. Although it's incredibly stupid I understand why little kids like Barney. Very upbeat, very happy. I sit and laugh at the nerdy kids on the show. Oh man, are they in for some butt kickings in school.

Thats great.

My son and daughter love to watch me or my wife play the XBox.

What I do is give them both controllers that are not plugged in to the system and play my game. They have such a blast playing along with me. When we play Godzilla: Melee, my favorite thing that my daughter says is, "Daddy, I'm Godzilla and you be Megalon, ok?" Cracks me up.

The only that would be emgbarassing would be if people saw you say no to the pleading child, and proceed to buy those other titles. :joker: Kids come first, good on ya. :):

Yeah... Also, the cool thing about having kids is that from now on I can use them as an excuse to go to Gamestop or EB

me - "Hey honey, lil' Johnny has really been wanting this new game called Fable for Xbox. He's been such a good boy, I think he deserves it."

Becky - "But Johnny's only two!"

LOL! You adults and your children crack me up! I'm 16 and my parents would never do anything that cool with me. I remember only one time when my dad played Street Fighter 2: Turbo for SNES with me. It was when I was 6ish or something. I had fun, but it was short-lived. My father is pretty tough when it goes to education (Oh man! I have to get all A's or my arse is going to be beaten!) and he has never bought any game for me since I was maybe 4. When I was 4 was when my sisters and I got a Nintendo. That was it (For those wondering about the SNES: it was my uncle's and he didn't want it anymore). The games I have, as of now, is for PC and when he catches me playing something weird, I sadly have to lie about it and say the game came with the comp. This is believable since my PC did come with 5 games (my sisters are my accomplices for my game purchasing crimes; by this, I am not old enough to purchase M-rated games so they are the ones who buy them for me. I mean come on, is Hitman 2, RTCW, and Quake 3 really that violent =D. Yippee for older sisters!)

BTW, I believe I have many grammatical errors of some sort, but it's because of these forums! ;)
