I didn't get this for Christmas but that's ok because I still haven't finished Morrowind yet. It's nice to see an expansion before I even get the game.

Looks like a good idea for an expansion to me. Their are some PC gamer scans in the comments section if you want to see some screens. I cant wait to see how weird/ trippy Sheogoraths sphere is and explore the area. I wonder if monsters will be leveled the same as in Oblivion or if they will be preordained as in Morrowind. I hope we dont end up killing this god as a level 4 character!

Must finish Morrowind. Must finish Morrowind.

You don't ever "finish" Morrowind, bud.

Oh, now you tell me. Well I at least want to finish the main quest. You can finish that can't you?

Sno

You're not even finished the main quest?

What the hell have you been doing for the last four years?

Thanks for the news Sno. Looking forward to the expansion. Hope it plays okay with my OOO and related mods installed.

I won't be getting the expansion. I can't even play Oblivion. The game crashes everytime i try to load an 'auto save' so i can only load games i have manually saved. Even then i get lots of random crashes. Random being anywhere from 5 minutes to 15 minutes of game time. :(

And incase anyone was going to ask, it is vanilla. Installed straight off the CD with no mods or anything.

Actually I've only been playing the game for one year. I discovered it really, really late. But I want to finish it before I get Oblivion and any expansions available when I finally buy it. At least I know my rig can run it pretty nicely.

If you've got Nero installed, that has been known to cause a lot of crashes. If you do, let me know cause there's a work around for it.

Thanks but i don't have Nero on this machine. I downloaded the patch last night and that seems to have fixed a LOT of problems. Finally ive been able to enjoy Oblivion. I've played a couple hours into the game now and it's awesome. Only had a couple crashed and one blue screen. Im saving constantly but at least the auto saves work now. The patch fixed it.

Hopefully they release another patch that fix the rest of the issues.

Currently closed the first gate at Kvatch (or however it's spelled) and am back in the Imperial City after escorting the Heir to the Mountains to be protected by the Blades. Im not doing a couple side quests. I have a level 5 Orc who isn't to happy cause he lost a bit of coin betting in the Arena. :P

Turn off all auto save features in the ini file. Auto saves are the other big culprit causing crashes. Just hit F5 to quick save in-game every 5 or 10 minutes to keep your progress saved.

If you try it, hope it gets rid of the few remaining ctd's you're having.

Ah thanks, i'll definatly try that. So auto save are a known problem to cause crashes?

After i posted my last message i tried playing again and had the old problem of loading the last save which was an autosave and the game crashed. To tired to play now but tomorrow i'll turn it off and see how it goes.

Thanks for the tip Jag.

Found one other oddity R8. After implementing the suggestions I listed above into my game, I still had the odd ctd about once every hour... usually whenever I am going through a door or gate that loads a new cell. This weekend I have put about 8 hours playtime in and haven't had one ctd. The difference? Before activating any door or city gate into a new cell, I change to 3rd person perspective... then activate the door. Haven't had a ctd all weekend since stumbling across this. Couldn't tell you why it seems to be eliminating the ctd's for me, but it has so far!!

BTW Sno... sorry for thread jacking your post but Oblivion is such a great game that I just wanted to try and help R8 be able to play hours on end without a ctd. It really adds to the immersion factor when the game's not crashing on you.

No, by all means, help the guy out.

I can't really offer up anything since Oblivion works fine* for me, but i had to deal with constant CTD's when i played Morrowind.

It sucks when the game you love doesn't love you back. :):

* = Well, i lie. Some odd quirks mysteriously appeared on my PC install of Oblivion.

The game had been installed for months, and i stress that i had absolutely no problems with the game what-so-ever. The game was unmodded and running without patches. Even so, inexplicably, after so much time with no trouble, it started up that triggers* would fail to fire on Ayleid dungeons, and it would only happen after playing the game for an hour or so. (* = Doors opened remotely by switches wouldn't open.)

^ Weird ****, required a reinstall.

Even so, it needs to be said that Bethesda's quality assurance is leaps and bounds greater than it was on Morrowind or anything else they did previously.

It's just that it's such a big game, so weird **** is bound to happen.

I've had the ctd's, got a shot from my doctor and everythings fine..................wait a sec........what are we talking about again????????

I have nero and when Oblivion came out (that's when I got it) I had the occasional ctd. But for me, most of them happened when I was loading a new level. Never really had the random crash, maybe 3 times out of the 20 something crashes. Most were during a loading scene.

I'm doing Mehunes razor(sp) from the Kot9 xpack. Since my Guild Wars Nightfall review is done I can now get back into my other games. Doing Prey and Oblivion now.

I'll get the Shivering Isles xpack when it comes out, but I wont start that content until I beat the main storyline in Oblivion. I'm kind of holding off on that while I get into all the Guilds. I'm high man in the assasin guild, arena champ, about 1/2 way thru the mages, just started the fighters, and I'm on hold in the thieves...................

My friend who reached level 110, finished every quest (well, 99% probably) and has nearly every item begs to differ.

Man he's so cool.

Since joining one house excludes you from the other two, you fail!

It's impossible to complete all the quests with a single character.

Also, what about random exploration?

There's dungeons every 10 feet in Morrowind.

Also: GUYS, GUYS, are you listening? 1/4th the size of Cyrodiil!

Even Solstheim was maybe a 1/10th the size of Vvardenfell.

This add-on is gunna be huge!

Jaffa
January 18th, 2007, 04:39 pm
Remind me how big Cyrodill is compared to Vvandenfell. Because Vvandenfell is very big in my book.

And I've hit just about every one of those dungeons every 10 feet.

Sno
January 18th, 2007, 07:43 pm
In Oblivion, Cyrodiil is nearly 17 square miles.
In Morrowind, Vvardenfell was apparently just under 6 square miles.

Oh my God! It took me a long time to walk/run around Vvandenfell. But at least I hear I can get a horse in Oblivion. I'd hate to walk/run everywhere.

So if the expansion is 1/4 of 17 square miles (let me do the math), that would be 4.25 square miles. So that's nearly as big as the area in Morrowind.

I so have to get this game very soon. Must finish Morrowind main quest.

Joe Cool

Yeah but Morrowind felt bigger, maybe thats cause the "walk" was waaaaaay slower?

Oblivion also has the fast travel thinger.

I almost never use it. I think the fast travel totaly takes away from the "feel" of the game.
