Battlefield 1942 is the best war game from EA Games in my opinion.

Thanks for the link.. I popped for a copy! Too bad Amazon keeps reverting to their own CC type.. had to redo the billing 5 times!!! Nertz to their 19% interest charges.. my Debit card has none!!!!
Would have gotten it more than 6 months ago from Costco, but the box only mentioned Win XP as the OS.. it is GTG with W2K.

Wow it's a great deal. Unfortunately I like Battlefield 2 more... and BF1942 is too old.

Karlsweldt, I see you're an old school OS clinger :P I tend to use the cutting edge on anything and test them through hell till I get to heavenly operations. That's just me though, so I guess I'm on the opposite end of the power user/enthusiast spectrum.

I go for power also, but the kind of "power" I appreciate is when the 'full-pull' flag drops at the sled drags. And to see a typical farm tractor belch 50 ft. columns of black smoke, that is power!! Or to see 4x 450 C.I. Hemis on a rig. Wince, you SUVs!!

OK, enough.. I do enjoy a lot of my older games.. and some newer ones. But give me something that doesn't leave me too tensed up. My needs are simple.. leave the stress to the younger ones that can tolerate it. Getting ready to rip page # 66 off my calendar.

:) I love older games, too. Just wondering about your choice of OSes though.

Windows 2000 Pro does all and more that Windows XP Home does.. but may lack some of the extensions of XP Pro. It is a very stable, reliable platform. After all, it took many SP issues to finesse it. XP may need another SP or so to get it to the same level. With XP, it is too Web-oriented. Yes, you have the choice of 'classic' theme, but there are too many pop-ups from within the OS itself. For pure business needs, only XP Pro may have less of the nonsense. There is at least another 3 plus years of service life left in W2K.. same for XP. Must we purchase every new item when it is offered? Get some returns from your investment! Used to be a saying with cars.. "When the tires are worn.. time for a new car"!
Edit:
Had a few "old-man" problems the past week or so.. slowly getting back to 'normal'.
OK, so I got the game on the 8th and installed it (all 8 CDs). Great graphics, but there is one serious flaw.. you cannot invert the mouse axis for up/down! Made a few Email inquiries to EA but got only the generic response.. are they sick?
With any contstruction equipment or aircraft, forward with the control is 'down' and back is 'up'. Yes, I could invert the axis in Windows' Control Panel for the game, but then have to restore normal action after!
Any clues on how to invert the mouse axis?
