View Full Version : The Suffering for PC

I know that this game has been out for consoles for some time now, but they just released it for PC recently.

I just thought I'd give a  for this game, it's very similar to Max Payne in the gameplay, and I can also see a little similarity in the storyline too. You can use the classic WASD keyboard setup, and switch weapons with the mouse-scroll. The "bullet-time" mode is replace by a "transformation" into a
very powerful creature, which can pretty much rip apart any thing in it's path, you have to watch your transformation "meter" , and make sure you switch back to a normal human before the meter runs out, or you die....they encourage you to play in this transformation mode as much as possible, even rewarding you with special powers the more you play in that mode.

It has to be one of the bloodiest games I've ever seen, so if you like that sort of thing, you might want to check this out. You are also able to "Save anywhere" in addition to the normal "Checkpoint" saves. The game is very creepy, and the monsters look like they stepped right out of a Hellraiser movie. It's also littered with profanity....if you remember the game Kingpin, then you will know how much bad language is in this game.

As far as bugs go, here are the ones I have encountered.

1. Graphical glitch that produces "tearing" and "streaking" all over the screen....this only happens in the '"restrooms", if you go and flush the toilet....wierd........I just don't do that, and everythings fine. This is solved by resetting the resolution, I didn't have to exit the game, and just continued on.

2. A glitch, where a prison guard was "invincible"...don't know what caused this, but I just reverted back to a checkpoint save, about 30 seconds earlier, and this solved it.

3. One section had me escort a prisoner, who loves to stand right in front of you while you are firing your guns. You are not required to escort him anywhere, and you can even kill him, but the game has different endings based on how good or bad you act in the game..........not really a bug, just bad AI for this one character.

I'll try and get some screenshots for this one today, I don't remember seeing some of the real bloody ones on any gaming sites...we might have to move the post based on the shots I take.

:D:

Sounds like fun Fzoul. I'll keep my eyes open for it next time I'm in EB, etc.

I can't seem to find out how to take a screen for this game, ...."print screen" doesn't work, there is no mention in the Manual about it.

Is there a program that I can download, that would help with this?

Plenty of them actually - go to Download.com and search for "screenshot capture utility" etc.., and you should find some.

I am not at home now otherwise I would just e-mail you the little free program I use. Well actually I don't have home internet access until Wedsnday so I can't do that any ways. But it crops (re-sizes to 800x600) saves it as a JPEG and tones down the quality a bit, plus saves them in order to a specified folder for retrieval and easy web posting...and lets you fool around with the lighting and sharpness quality to make them look more like they do in-game if necessary.

Ok, I got Fraps....I Have heard of that one, and it has the other features with it too.

Ok, so here ya go.....it's kind of tough to take screens and fight at the same time.....

There are bloodier murder scenes than this, at different points in the game.

Ya, these guys can stick to the walls and ceiling, and this one got me pretty good.

These guys drop from the ceiling really quick....

Here is the creature that you transform into...he moves pretty fast, so there is some "blurriness" in the shots...

You can see here, with one swipe of his claw, he turned that one into jibblets....

I had to transform back, before I could get the last one in this room, so I used the Shotgun on him, which is a very effective weapon, and at close range, also turns them into jibblets.

Hope these aren't too gruesome for ya, like I said, I've seen it worse in some places, but the game is a blast and anyone who enjoyed Max Payne, and likes to be scared now and again....should have a lot of fun with this one.

Looks pretty wild. Kinda reminds me of the action and graphics of Blood Rayne.

Hmmm, might be interesting. I had a pretty good time with the Max Payne games, so maybe I'll give it a shot if I finish up PainKiller before Doom III hits the stores. Is it a "full price" game, or a little cheaper? Let us know your final thoughts after you finish it, OK? Thanks for the info and screen shots. Edward.

Currently it's $29.95, and you may be able to find it cheaper at "gogamer", or with a search on Pricegrabber, but I don't know about how the shipping cost would effect that price.
