I just got a new mobo, cpu and HD

My current spec is:

120 gb Seagate Sata Hard drive
Amd athlon 64 4000+ cpu with Arctic Cooling Silence 64
ECS nforce3-a939 mobo
Radeon 9200 pro 256mb graphics card (I know really outdated now)
2x256mb pc3200 (I think) Ram chips

Yes I know my ram needs goin up to 1gb at least, where can I get this from pretty cheap? (what price is average)

Also with DX10 coming out is it worth buying a new graphics card as I here they will become obsolete.

Thanks again,

Mattibo

I would not worry about getting a new graphics card that is DX10. DX10 is only for Vista and from what I am hearing, some games just don't like Vista. Give it about a year to work the kinks out.

What graphics card and ram do you reccomend?

Geforce/Nvidia 6800 or above - get one with at least 256MB of video memory on it, preferably 512MB if you can afford it, or something similar in the ATI XT line that's comparable.

You definitely want to upgrade that 9200 for new games at this point.

I'll disagree with chip. DX10 will definitley prove to be worth it with many of the upcoming games. I'm an early adopter on many technologies, so thats why I'm taking the opposite approach. I'd recommend waiting till January to see if AMD comes out with a powerful enough card to compete with the 8800GTX. I would recommend that you also get 2GBs of RAM since that will alleviate any future performance increases.

Awww, this is starting to sound quite expensive :(: so far its cost £168 for my motherboard,HD and CPU... And since I'm at college and not in full time employment maybe I should go for ati x1300-1600 and just 1GB of ram ? :(:

PC gaming is an expensive hobby. Doesn't mean you have to have the latest and greatest though for good performance. 1GB Ram and an updated graphics card (7900GT is a great card and should be coming down in price due to the new 8000 series) should keep you going for awhile.
