Anyone picking up Driver 3 ??

I really liked playing the first one on PlayStation. I also really enjoyed being able to choose various vehicles in Driver 2. But the great sound of the car from D1 really took a nosedive in D2. The roar of the engine was so bad in D2 that it seriously killed my enjoyment of the game as a whole.

If D3 has good car sound (like D1 did) I'm pretty much guaranteed to buy it.

Of course, I haven't decided on which console I'm going to buy yet.

I'm leaning toward the PS2 since it has two Baldur's Gate games and a Final Fantasy game. I still haven't played that Taxi game that hit the shelves the same time as PS2 first did.

The "only" reason I didn't buy a PS2 was the craptastic graphics (my buddy has one). For sports games it's fine, but I can see a huge difference in my March Madness game alone from the PS2 to the XBox from a looks standpoint.

Once BG:DA 2 comes out there'll be two BG games for the XBox also :) (albeit Action RPG games). I'll probably pick up DA when I'm finished with DX2:IW and Halo, as I've never played it.

Pick up whatever you want. I bet you will be sucked in like Chylde was sooner or later and buy more than one. :p:

Sorry Supa, Dark Alliance 2 is very unlikely to ever come out for the XBox. Interplay developed and published the game and, which you know, has a ton of legal and financial problems. One of those problems is they can no longer develop or sell any game based on the D&D license which of course DA2 is based on.

Anyway Gaim, you're a tough one to say which one system is better. I know you like the Final Fantasy games (and possibly other Japanese console RPG's) so that definitely points to the PS2. But, you're a RPG nut in general and with more American/PC styled RPG's on the XBox (like Fable or Jade Empire) that points more to the XBox.

My solution, buy both and never miss out on a great game.

EDIT: DA2 aside, the XBox already has two D&D games, it has the first Dark Alliance as well as D&D: Heroes.

Still not coming Fzoul. Interplay has been blocked by Atari from selling, releasing or otherwise developing any further games based on the D&D license until they pay the royalties owed to them. Prior to their website going down, they even had to remove all references to the D&D games they had previously developed including references to all Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale games, all they could offer were the downloads of patches. No boxshots, no strategies, no selling them through the Interplay store, nothing. Interplay basically had to deny any knowledge that the games even existed, or that they had any hand in developing them.

I still have the boxshot of Age of Empires for the PS2 from Konami, want to take bets on that one still being released?

Next time Fzoul take a look at the news, and in the meantime....

Well maybe it's not coming to your area, but it's in the stores over here in California....I was ribbing you because every store from Blockbuster to Best Buy to Gamestop has it on the shelves, and it has been there since the day it was released along with the PS2 game.

Now, I don't know if there was a "recall" issued for all those stores, but I had a copy in my hand, and was going to buy it, but my friend told me he had already purchased it on PS2, so we could play MP using his copy. I figured I would eventuallly get it, but have put it off till later since we are playing his copy right now.

I will check it out today, and see if those stores have "recalled" all their copies.

They still list it on Amazon....and so do all the "alternate" buyers on Amazon.

Apology to Gaim for Threadjacking ........ :p:

Ummm..... You know what? I am a complete idiot.

You really want to know how big of an idiot I am?

I FREAKING OWN THE XBOX VERSION OF THIS GAME!!!!

Ugh, I was thinking of any potential Gamecube version of the game.

So, in the meantime I will give up one of these

And I will still raise Fzoul three of these:

:moon: :moon: :moon:

And to avoid the wrath of gaim for two staff members completely threadjacking his thread. I hated Driver 2, so I was going to stay away from Driv3r, and the luke-warm reviews haven't made me really change my mind either.

EDIT: And I have to vote for our Federal Government in our national election today with my state of mind? Gee, I wonder who my local Marijuana Party candidate is?

That's pretty bad Bruenor...hehe. I saw the BG:DA2 box at Gamestop also - I didn't even know it was out already?

I can't wait for Fable, Halo 2 and Jade Empire for the Xbox...one of the reasons I bought it (and absolutely love it so far, wish I would've gotten Thief:DS for my XBox now also considering how well the DX2 game plays on it).

Yes sorry to threadjack Gaim - I passed on Driv3r because of the mediocre reviews also as well as the even worse reader reviews in some cases.

Considering Morrowind, the BG:DA series, KOTOR II, Fable and Jade Empire are coming out for the Xbox, it would be my choice for RPG games.

Unfortunately, it looks like Driver 3 is disappointingly bad. I'm surprised that Reflections dropped the ball so completely. This game was supposed to be big $. The original Driver was one of my favorites on the PS1 - too bad the new one looks like a rental at best.

lol, Bruenor! Now there's the danger of owning all three consoles, hey? Or maybe chasing after your daughter all day long has you wiped right out?

PS - I own it on the box, too. :):

I'll have to check out the reviews of D3. Really, even if the graphics and gameplay is only as good as the first one, I'll buy it. But it absolutely, positively can NOT have the same uber-lame engine sound that D2 had.

Thanks for the info on the RPGs on XBox, Bruenor. I was not aware of them before. I just might have to pick up both consoles. I can't really think of a reason to pick up the GC console at this time.

This game is insanely cool. And I read a review at gamespot for it I could not believe the rating or the review(it was so wrong). The textures in this game are so insane I have never seen textures so cool and good looking. And how about making your own movies of each and every game you play no matter if you are just taking a ride or on a mission. Out of the car you wont get the crazy fast kung fu action of True Crimes but for them that want to relax and enjoy some smooth shooting much like the great James Bond did in his movies Driv3r delivers. The controls while were inverted at first for me are very smooth while aiming. Frame rate is so smooth now I got so frustrated with driver 2 and 1 because they lacked a smooth frame rate. And the citys are so detailed and so rendered. The first game I played was take a ride of cource to check out the city and how well it was rendered. I picked a nice street racer bike and soon after crashed it sending my body about 40 ft flying sliding rolling on the pavement all the while my bike is flying and rolling and smashing on the pavement as well. This was just amazing to see truely with the textures so lifelike. The controls are great to because using the triggers for gas and brake you have tons of touch sensitive control over them. Once you get used to it its almost like having pedels. And watch out for the citizens this time they still try there best to run out of the way but if you hit one they will thump hard and even go flying up and away. The traffic ai is so good now I love it when you start to cross the lane into oncomming traffic its like real life. In driver 2 the traffic was just as bad as cops but this time they acctually try to stop or get out of your way not get into your way. And if you wreck with someone any number of things can happen if you stay at the scene. The most common thing amongst normal citizens is they get out of there car and act just like it was a wreck untill you take action. Other times they will get out and start shooting at you if they get real mad.
And when you do wreck the cars damage is very well done the best i have seen thats for sure. The way the windows break and shatter and how real the textures of the cars and buildings look.
If you read a review about this game and think its a bad game I suggest you rent it and try it out or check out some of the moves or screen shots of it I think its well done.
