hm ive seemed to narrowed it down

Half Life 2, F.E.A.R, or Call of Duty 2.

Which one do you think? Which can be played online?

If I were ranking all FPS's, then it would go something like this:
Half-Life
Unreal Tournament
Doom

You're going to find a lot of people playing even older FPSs. All you need do is take your pick and load up.

My top 3 are:

Call of Duty 2
FEAR
UT2K4

I only have online experience with CoD2, and have always found loads of people online.

Anyhow, in no order.....

Half life 1/2- good online play, very fast!

Call of Duty 1/uo/2- play this online (2) alot great game.

F.E.A.R-great game, but never played it online.

G.R.A.W-Very tatacial, but again never played it online.

Yes you can. There are lots of players. Not only that,
Fortress Forever (http://www.fortress-forever.com) mod is coming out for that game!

Lets keep it simple HL2 comes with counter strike source, which is the worlds most popular online shooter over the years. It is a no vehical, simple team v game - kill all the rest or complete objective over a usually not too complex map. In my opinion it is the best, and the fact it comes with an exellent single and multi game makes it a must.
If its pure outskilling your after, its up there - find a sever that has nice none cheating people on and loose about a year from your life.

How could I forget about Delta Force Extreme? I'm playing it right now with two friends. Now if only UT2004 had coop like that.

Quake 4 blows the doors off of Doom 3!!!
But if you like the older original Doom, then you have got to get the "Classic Doom" mod for Doom 3!!
The original DFLW was quite good, and the Delta Force Extreme goes it a bit better. The RTCW game was very good, and gives you a bit of a 'history' lesson. The Half-Life Platinum set had five playable games for single-player, more on-line. And don't forget the Descent 3 edition. Quake Arena has some good fast-paced action. Haven't gotten many of the newer games.. not in the budget!
