Ladies and gentlemen, if there was ever a movie that was not made with the critics in mind, this is it. I just got back from seeing it, and let me say that as a fan of the comics I LOVED it. Dark, menacing, occasionally very funny, and brutally violent. This is the way the Punisher was meant to be. I wouldn't have it any other way. :):

First of all, the acting, much to my surprise, was good. Thomas Jane pulls off the Punisher very nicely, and John Travolta does a good job too. Much of the complaints I hear about the movie have to do with how cheesy the dialogue is. This is true to an extent people, but lets remember something...pick up any issue of the Punisher and you will see dialogue exactly like it. I have never seen any comic book movie so true to the original spirit of the actual comic book. The producers did not dumb things down or sissify them in any way...this really is THE punisher, something definitely made for the fans. Kudos to all involved for having the stones to put it on screen like it deserves. I didn't notice any CGI at all (except for maybe one part, come to think of it), just some old fashioned Dirty-Harry style shoot em ups. Also had some great one-liners too.

Fans of the comic books will love it. I picked out a couple scenes that were straight from one issue or the other, to the point where I could tell exactly what was going to happen...great stuff. I haven't even been reading it for that long, but people who have been reading it forever will get a kick out of picking up on all the little nuances.

If you're a cinema snob looking for something to satisfy your taste for action, or you just don't "get" the Punisher...look elsewhere

As for me, this is my new favorite comic book film. Thank god somebody finally got it right. For what it's worth...The Punisher beats the pants off Hellboy, in my book :p:. Can't wait for the sequel.

I saw it too last night and would have to agree with you. It was kind of nice seeing Roy shieder(sp) in this flick and the two male actors who played his neighbors did a great job providing some comic relief.

Good to hear you enjoyed it too! Out of curiousity, were you ever a fan of the comics? I also forgot to mention one other thing...At the theater where I saw it, they were handing out free comic books to everyone who bought a ticket. The issue was a reprint of #129 of the Amazing Spiderman...where the punisher made his first appearance. I thought that was a great promotion...I had never read that particular issue before. Very cool!

No, never read a word of the Punisher comic, but I still liked the movie. Also they were giving out the same comic book here too.
