Dear Tech Savvy Forumites -

I keep getting the following error message when booting my new Windows XP (Home Edition) PC to desktop and can not find a way to get rid of it.

File Open Message Window: FINDFAST.EXE - No Disk
There is no disk in the harddrive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk1\DR10.

I know what FindFast is but have no idea what "Device\Harddisk1\DR10" refers to or why this message persists whenever I initially boot to desktop. Have tried to disable FindFast.exe in the Start/Run/MSCONFIG/Start-up menu but it keeps defaulting to on. Have also checked the normal Device Manager in the System diagnostic tools in the Windows Control Panel and found no apparent hardware or software driver problems. Also, everything else seems to work fine. I just click "Continue" when the error message pops-up and it disappears. But it is disturbing nevertheless.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Cheers, Terry

How many hd's do you have on this system?

Keeping in mind that computers start counting at 0, the HardDisk1 either did or does contain files that Office is looking for with its FindFast utility.

You can kill said application in many ways, I usually find much like pests, it's best to cover all your bases:

FindFast gets dumped into the Startup group so the 1st & easiest way to kill it is;

Start >> All programs >> Startup right click on Findfast and delete.

Then dump any references to FindFast out of the RUN registry key;

Start >> run "regedit"

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

You might just want to cover all your bases by finding said application (usually %systemroot%\program files\Microsoft Office\Office) and delete it off the system.

And finally, see if you can't uninstall it from the Office installation to begin with;

Add/Remove programs >> Office >> "Change" >> Add Remove features. I'm not 100% sure what the damn feature is called though...

Thanks for the hints.

Will try the first two suggestions but will most likely not mess with MS Office in light of all the recent problems I had with it.

Another suggestion is to re-run office setup and select "repair". If you're lucky that might do the trick.
