not on your cd-rom , maybe you can ask someone on your network, who has a dvd-rom, to burn an image of whatever you plan on playing and you can mount the image with an emulator of your choice

Well the games im planning to play on would be Fifa 06. I just wanted to find out which emulator i can download. And what you mean take a picture of the game?

try daemon tools,i said image not picture, an image file is basicaly a copy of the dvd in a format (iso, nrg, bin etc.) that can be mounted with the emulator, thus fooling your computer into thinking that you have a dvd-rom and there is a dvd in it ;)

A better solution would be to buy a DVD drive, they're really cheap right now less than $20 from Newegg.com

Yep. Less than the cost of the game you want to play!

http://www.alcohol-soft.com/ you can find software on this site that can both create and mount images, all you have to do is download it...creating images is very easy and if you get stuck you can read the help file

Instead of helping him do something that is rather questionable, a dvd drive will solve his problem, and make other dvd games easier to play.

There are not that many dvd games out yet. Most are still on cds'.

Did fifa06 come on a dvd for the pc? I only see it available on a cd.

This thread is close to being locked. Please do not help him any furthur. If he can't figure out what needs to be done, he'll just have to get a dvd drive!

the issue of copying games, making 1:1 or images, is not looked upon very well.............

Even if you do want to make 1:1 copy, you still need a dvd drive to read the disc in the first place.

It just blows my mind that there are people who are still too damn stubborn to buy a frickin DVD drive for their PC.

Christ, the drives are cheaper than the games they cry about not being able to play.

They're the reason i have to deal with 4-6 disc installs!

I have no respect for individuals stuck in the CD-rom era!

Of course the other issue with that Sno is how few games do come out on DVD. If more and more games came out on DVD, people would be forced to upgrade. And unlike GPUs and so forth, a DVD drive is $20-30. Not a back breaker. I would much rather buy a game on DVD then one that spans multiple CD's.

Yeah, but pubs are warry of putting their games on DVD because people are having such a hard time letting go of their CD drives.

A DVD reader drive is not expensive.. and can read both DVDs and CDs. The price of DVD/CD burners has come down drastically in the past months, and you can get a decent unit for less than $100.00 USD. Check NewEgg and other sources. The data storage on a DVD is several gigs.. whereas the CD can store only up to 700 megs of uncompressed data. Many newer games will be on one single DVD, where up to five CDs may be needed for some similar games.
Once you have a DVD/CD burner, you can copy your favorite audio selections to it in CDA format for playing on your car stereo, if it has the CD player! All those digital camera photos can be burned to a disk, for sharing. And it is very valuable for making system backups so you do not have to reload everything if the OS fails.

unless you live in romania..we're not exactly renown for buying stuff ;)
Also i see lots of people saying he should buy a dvd-rom, i agree with that ...but that's not what the topic is about

And we are not accusing you of piracy. We understood the original question and your intent in answering the question. Unfortunately even in honestly helping him the thread falls into a grey area we would like to avoid.

So the best advice is to buy a DVD-ROM drive.

In simple language, the DVD disk is different from a CD disk. The data storage is greater, and there usually are two data layers in a DVD. A CD disk has only one data layer, but can be read on a CD or DVD player. A DVD disk can only be read by a DVD player or recorder. The price of a DVD player is quite reasonable.. less than $30.00 USD in some stores. But having the facility to burn a DVD or CD on a combo unit is well worth the investment.

No, don't even think about copying the data from a DVD to a CD. It is copyrighted, and is illegal. And there is some 'hidden' data that you can never record or view.. but the program knows it is there. It won't copy over to another disk.. of any type.

You know, if you really want to hold onto your CD Drive buy your stuff on CD's and not DVD's.... To even ask if you can paly a DVD in a CD-Rom......

Mow a couple lawns and buy a DVD rom drive.

Problem solved.

I know for me personally I use emulation now after destroying my orginal copy of GTA San Andreas from playing it so much..So as soon as I get a game..I make an image, mount in Daemon Tools, and put the DVD or CD away..NEVER to come out again...Works for me

I have yet to bust a single disc/game cart/anything ever.

Take better care of your stuff, people!

My Suggestion is that you can't play a DVD Game in a ordinary CD-Rom. :(:

Here are my tips:

You need to find a CD-Rom that has logo on the front.
