I haven't played any of the games in the Total War series, but this latest one (Rome: Total War) is looking very nice.

I was wondering if these games featured a Civilization-style diplomacy/empire management system in addition to the large scale battles. If they do, then I'm definitely set for the next one :):

yea the battles are just the battles, there is also a campaign map where you manage your territories, build stuff (structures and troops), declare war/pease (peace? wtf is that?), move your armies, send diplomats/spies/princess (yea, you can send your biatch too), and stuff =]

Yeah, the total war campaigns feature a risk style overhead map where you can forge alliances, create trade, and manage your diplomatic fronts. This map also allows you to to tech upgrades, build structures, train units, and move your armies. This is a part of the game that is often overshadowed by the real time battles.

The new campaign map will be fully 3d and the terrian on this map will fully translate into the battles. It will also be more spread out so the map is less cluttered which was one of the only problems with the older games.

Yeah, it's very high on my list too. Usually I'm not too big a fan of these large scale RTS games, but after seeing the engine in action in the Time Commanders television show, I definitely got too have this game. :):

Im very anxious to see how this one turns out. Ive seen some E3 video footage and it looks really good. Im hoping having so many troops on the battlefield at one time, as well as full cities and all the details of the battlefield are shown well, and performance wont suffer to much.
