While systems with two graphic cards aren't really new, they haven't gotten much press either.
On the 28th of May, 2004 Tom's Hardware had an article entitled Alienware's Graphics Array Adds to Gaming Wallop with a Double Graphics Card Punch (http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040528/index.html). Complete with a Divx video of this new multi-card solution, the article was very interesting, but only somewhat informative. This is because raw data from running the system through various benchmarks wasn't available.
Lo and behold, yesterday (June 18th) Tom's Hardware published a new article
about Alienware's video card array entitled, Alienware video array benchmarks leaked to the web (http://www.tomshardware.com/hardnews/20040618_201209.html). The article goes on to explain that since the inside benchmarks had been "leaked", Alienware had decided to give a copy of its benchmarks to various news outlets, including Tom's Hardware.
The article is a short, but good read. Specifically....
If the figures are accurate, we can see that the Video Array of two graphics cards can increase performance an average of 77% over a single graphics card.

Images of dual processor and dual video card systems have begun dancing in my head.
If those self-created benchmarks hold true, one could by two low-end video cards (such as the plain $100 Radeon 9600) for far less than the price of the latest & greatest $500+ card (X800 XT), yet see better performance.
Me likes the sound of that !!
I suppose one could put two X800 XTs into a system, but at this time that would seem like nothing more than a total waste of money. After all, what game currently out or due out soon can stress a single X800 Xt ??
