First of all, hello. As you can tell I am new to these forums.
Now, for my problem. I recently bought Vampire the masquerade: Bloodlines.
All seemed to work fine untill...well I just finished the: more fun with plaguebearers quest and killed brother Kanker. Now I'm trying to leave the sewers again. Empahsis on trying. Everytime I leave the sewers it seems like my character is sinking into blackness. Or something like that. I can strike and use abilities but I can't move or jump. My screen just goes black.
Does anybody know a solution for this particular problem? :scared:

1) Using the most recent patch?
2) Tried using the unofficial patch? (I think the most recent version is on 3dg)
This is a REALLY buggy game, I'd say those are the best bets.

That’s pretty strange... The only time I've seen the game go to a black screen on someone is when they try to start the game.
Question for you... If you were to press Escape to go to the main menu does the menu come up or the game just stays at a black screen?
The solution for people that have the black screen when the game is loading is to;
Click Start/Run and type Dxdiag then Click ok
When Dxdiag Starts Click on the last Tab labeled More Help
Click the Override Button
In here you will want to se your Monitors Refresh Rate by setting an override Value... For my LCD that would be 75 (Hz) that my monitor will max out at on 1024x768. If I were playing my games at 1280x1024 I would set that option to 60. For my CRT Monitor I can go all the way 120 and this would help Vampire Bloodlines to display properly on my screen other wise I can not even start the game. This was a pretty common bug with the game and pretty much the only fix. Although I doubt this is your problem as you have actually been playing the game already but it couldn’t hurt to try.
Before trying any of that I would suggest using the Retail v.12 Patch:

Had no problems there so far.

No. It just pops up like it's supposed to.

It's not just the black screen. It's like my character is stuck somehow. And I already have that patch.

I'm not sure I remember exactly where you are but did you have to fight with him in this one swerer section under a building and there were pipes sticking out of each wall in a giant square room? I know thats pretty vague but I think I remember that I kept falling through the map in that area. Uf thats whats happening I think I had to use a no clip cheat code in the console to leave that area. Then again you might not be talking about the same part...

Yeahyeah. With that crucifide guy on the wall. And now that you mention it. It did seem like I was falling or floating or something.

Uhm....Just start the game with -console added to the shortcut command line.
How do I do that? :scared:

Right Click on the Shortcut Icon on your desktop or in the start menu and Go to Properties. From there you will see a Shortcut tab, Click on the Shortcut tab. In the box that says Target, you will see line of text that directs the link to the games executable file (this is the file that loads the game). You should also see " " marks. After the last " mark you will be adding a space and then the text -console
IE: "c:\Program Files\Game\game.exe" -console
Then you will click on the Apply and then ok buttons (or you can just click the ok button which will do both).

No need to do that... just change it back.
Make a copy of the shortcut and try the command on the shortcut.
Another way to do this it go to Star/Run... Look for the vampire.exe file in the games folder and click Open after you select it. From there you can add the command -console after the games exe, IE: c:\Program Files\Vampired Bloodlines\vampire.exe -console
If that doesnt work then I'm not really sure why since it worked for me...

Already tried that. It didn't do any good.
Make a copy of the shortcut and try the command on the shortcut.
I'll try that once I've reinstalled the game.*sigh* :(:

Whats odd is that it shouldn't alter the saved games at all... All it really does is tell the game to allow you to press the console key.

The console popped up when I launched the game. Before the main menu. Is that what it's supposed to do?

I just reinstalled the game... I don't have my saved games anymore but yes thats what its supposed to do. When that happens just use the mouse to click the x in the top right corner just like you would do in windows to quick close a window. To bring the console window up when you need it just press the ~ key.
