I sure didn't take me long to go back through Episode One, again. I'll bet I didn't even spend three hours, and it was really easy after learning what to do the first time.

Nobody likes boss battles, but these were nice. There were three of them. There was the multi-level parking garage full of Ant Lions, that pesky, damned, bio-mechanical, howling, bug-like, helicopter, thingie, and the Strider at the end. They were well-spaced, and the first time through, each took substantial time to figure out; but they were a breeze, this time. I'll have to say that it was a most enjoyable, additional, three hours that I got out of this game. There's a good feeling that comes from being a "veteran," and being able to kick ass.

I also had more time to sightsee and notice little things, like Dawg becoming Alyx's "rabbit ears" for a transmitter she was trying to use near the beginning of the game. I have a deep appreciation for subtle silliness. Good practice for basic shooter skills, too. If you choose the proper weapon for each enemy, almost every one of them is "one-shot, one-kill;" (not really, but very effective) so you have to learn to change them quickly in the heat of battle. I'm guilty of just using the scroll wheel to change weapons, usually, but a little left-hand finger magic to grab the right weapon allows you to really "clean house with prejudice!" Most satisfying!

The little game is so well put-together that I suspect I'll probably replay it a few more times, later on, just for the practice. I really hesitate to say something positive about episodes, but the idea of a short, but really good, game that you can enjoy replaying and complete in an afternoon might have some merit.

OK, I'll shut up about City 17. I'm going back to the tropical islands on vacation to play with boats and hang-gliders. (Far Cry) Maybe by the time I get back, Prey will become a bargain, too. Have fun, folks. Edward.
