Hello.
I just borrowed this game from my buddy and I'm having a pretty good time with it. I just have some questions and I hope you guys can answer them:
1. What is the best way to fly a plane? It seems to be pretty hard.
2. How do I open the ramp of the transport boats?
3. Could you give me some tips so I can stop being a total n00b?
Thanx!

1. I prefer flying 3rd person in a plane. I cannot remember what the key is to change views but i *think* it is C
2. The up arrow
3. Don't wait for vehicles and stuff if there are none spawned, just go and kill. Unless you are some ungodly pilot, then you can stay :p

It's best to have a joystick for a plane. I never got the hang of using keyboard and mouse so I quit trying. Donjo is right about the tail view though. It makes flying a little easier.
Everyone is a bit of a n00b at first. Just keep logging in and fighting. You'll get better. It helps some to start game in single-player against the bots to get familiar with the maps.

Always use a joystick for flying.

I can see the advantages of the joystick for flying... With the keyboard I keep doing these crazy stunts that always get me killed.

Opening the hatch on those transport boats had me wondering too. You have to HOLD the up arrow key for it to work.
*grumble... stupid manual*
I'd tried flying with the mouse & keyboard and it's much more difficult than the joystick.
If you grab a tank or truck or something, keep an eye on how many seats are available for additional troops. Don't just take off right away. If there are allies around wait a moment, or drive in their direction, and let them hop on. This way when you get to your destination you're not fighting alone.
You can sink battleships with those large cannons on the islands.
Flak guns work good against enemy planes, tanks, etc.
Jump into the little two-seater car and cruise strait for the various points. This is the fastest way to get more bases for your side.
You can fly your plane over the enemy's aircraft carrier, parachute down onto it, and prevent anymore of their planes from taking off by shooting them as they spawn.
Don't forget to use your grenades. A lot of people die spraying bullets, but rarily use their nades. You can take out several enemies that are bunched too close together with a single grenade.

I used to be pretty damn good with the planes. I was flying using the keyboard and the first person non-cockpit view. I would switch views everytime I dropped a bomb to see if it hit. Just make sure you stay high, pick your target and dive bomb it. It's much more efficient than just flying by.

Good tips guys! I like the one about parachuting onto their carrier, I think I'll try that out.
Nova, how much sensitivity did you put on your keyboard for flying?

Whoops, I meant to say I flew with the mouse/keyboard, my bad. Either way I left every setting and function at the default level or key, except the parachute I once changed by mistake. Needless to say it resulted in some funny moments :):

Yesterday I downloaded Desert Combar mod an it kicks Arse!! It is a hardware hog thou, and sometimes the action looks like a slide show.

I manage to fly planes in BF1942 fairly well using the keyboard and mouse. I had to adjust the sensitivity of the controls in the game, but once I did that planes were flyable. When you jump into a plane press F9 for first person view. Helicopters are another story. I'd definitely recommend a joystick for that.

I can control the planes with ease using the keyboard. I haven't played more than a half-hour of BF1942, but the planes seemed easy enough. I guess its from all those years playing flight sims withought a joystick.

I have a question about joysticks too, I've been playing for a long time and I allways used the Keyboard and mouse to fly planes. One time I tried hooking up a joystick and trying it out.
But I found out that you can't switch from using keyboard/mouse to joystick on the fly, what I mean is I would spawn at the main base, run over to a plane(using KB/M), enter a plane and tried to use a joystick, but my computer didn't recognise the joystick at all and I would crash the plane.
Is it possible to have both KB/M and joystick work at the same time to where I can switch from one to the other at my preference?, I like to use the KB/M but when I enter a plane I would like to use a joystick.
Note:I tried the above senario when running Win98se but I haven't tried it since switching to WinXPHome.

I have played BF1942 using the Joystick to fly, and the KB/M for everything else.
As long as Windows "detects" and installs the joystick, then you just have to "Map" those flying keys to the joystick, inside the BF1942 options.
ala.... " Z axis = joystick up" "Y axis = joystick down" ...etc.
