I am trying to the 1.0 to 1.56 patch for Raven Shield but I get the error page but when I do the save target thing it says something along the lines of unable to establish a connection with server?

Sounds like you are just having problems trying to find a server to download it from. Maybe try a few others, there has got to be loads of servers carrying that patch and I doubt you will get an error on all of them.

The server is probably at full capacity. There's only a limited number of people that can download from one server at the same time, and when it's already full you get that message.

Try to download from another server, or wait some time untill there are less people trying to download from the server. Early in the mornings is usually a better time to download stuff than in the afternoon or evening, since there are a lot less people online at that time.

All of the servers here (http://www.3dgamers.com/dl/games/rainbowsix3/rvspatch_1.0_to_1.56_us.exe.html) were working just now when I checked. The first 3 came up and prompted me to open or save the file. The next one was at capacity.
Keep trying the various different mirrors. You should get it.
