View Full Version : No Voices on Lithtech cutscenes

I just got No One Lives Forever 2 after finishing the first game. I enjoyed it, but one of the things I love about these games is the acting and dialogue.

Unfortunately, for some reason the voice in both the demo and the full game doesn't work. I noticed that this is also an issue with TRON 2.0, also a Monolith game. I don't know if they use the same engine, but they do share the lack of voice.

I've done some research online about this and it seems as if this is with an audio codec that got replaced.

I've tried uninstalling and installing the game, patches, uninstalling video codec packages (such as DivX) and continually installing the game after each time. I still get no voices during the game. This is during the missions and any cutscenes.

My drivers are up to date and the game is patched, too.

Has anyone else found a workaround for this? It would be great to enjoy this game with the full atmosphere that it's so good at.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

What kind of soundcard do you have Dan?

On the manufacturer's site (http://www.powerspec.com/systems/archives/system_archive.phtml), my card is listed as an "AC'97 Audio CODEC" card.

Thanks,

Hmm, so you're using your mobo's sound then? Assume it works for you in all your other games? I honestly cannot imagine what the problem is off-hand, as I've never used my mobo's sound (have the same codec on my Gigabyte board).

I take it you've gone to the official Monlith boards and posed your question or searched for answers/topics there?

Sorry I couldn't be of more help...maybe someone else has run into this.

On board sound.....
Uh, are you not getting any sound at all, or not getting voices? Seems strange that only voices aren't working.

Did you try this (http://www.sierra.com/downloadfile.do?mediaid=5615) ?

This file addresses an audio issue that some users with unusual configurations may encounter with No One Lives Forever 2. This is a required update.

Hey, it works! Maybe I wasn't using the right patch. I can't remember where I downloaded it from, but it wasn't from Sierra's site.

Just to clarify, I was hearing all sound effects and music, just no voices.

Thanks for the correct link.
